Update from July 28th:
On July 28th, Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Sunny were in attendance at the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds baseball game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California to celebrate Korea Day. Before the festivities began, the girls posed for media photos, and Tiffany held a brief interview with the MC.
Taeyeon was up first, singing a beautiful version of the Korean national anthem. Afterwards, Tiffany gave a stunning performance of her rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, the American national anthem, to the crowd. Sunny then came out to throw the ceremonial first pitch. Following Sunny’s fellow members Jessica and Tiffany’s infamous pitches, the pressure was definitely on to throw a better one.
After Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Sunny’s performances, the three members posed for pictures with Los Angeles’s Ryu Hyunjin and Cincinnati’s Choo Shinsoo, both of whom are Korean baseball players in the United States.

hey, tiffany did well! that’s my opinion. ;)) dunno with the others, but i think she did well in singing the US anthem. :D
hbd, my beloved tiffany hwang miyoung! <3
I hate to say it, but I felt Tiffany’s rendition of the National Anthem was bad. I had a hard time sitting through it. It felt un-natural, awkward and did not flow well. She was also very pitchy and the worst thing about her performance was her breathing technique. She was taking breaths about every 2 or 3 words and even worse, she was taking breaths in the middle of single syllable words.
I don’t let my love & devotion for these girls blind me to what was a bad performance and hers was bad. For everyone making excuses that the American National Anthem is hard to sing, it isn’t hard to sing. I think if Fany had just sang the song without trying be over-creative she wouldn’t have been so pitchy and maybe her breathing would not have been so awkward. And before anyone questions where do I get to come off criticizing her singing technique, I come from a family of singers and have been singing all my life. I may not be a professional singer, but I do understand how breathing affects singing.
I’m sure some of you are going to get angry and flame me for my honest opinion of her performance, but if you’re honest with yourself and be objective about her rendition of the National Anthem and listen without bias you will come to the same conclusion. It was bad. And before anyone flames me for being Anti-Fany or whatever you want to label me as. I named my car Miyoung after Tiffany, that’s how much I love Fany, and this is why I am so bothered by her performance this weekend. I know Fany can sing, I know she could have done so much better, but to my disappointment her performance was bad.
Her performance this weekend won’t affect SNSD as a whole whenever they begin promoting the mythical U.S. Album, however, I worry that this performance will tarnish her credibility as an individual singer to the U.S. audience who listened to her sing for the first time this weekend.
@deviantgeek rather than complain that it was “bad” what you mean is that you were disappointed. The performance wasn’t “bad” it’s similar to what many singers have performed, but it may not have met your expectations. Which I think is perfectly fine as an opinion.
TBH I just don’t think that Tiffany is that great a singer. She’s worked hard and has moved from the 4th vocalist on SNSD when they debuted past Jessica and Seohyun to second so she should be proud. And she has more of a showy “American” disposition than Jessica, and that’s why SM has pushed her ahead of Jessica, especially in international and American promotions but her chops are limited.
Also the US national anthem is hard. Generally speaking, anthems are made to be easy to sing, for obvious reasons but among anthems, the US one is technically difficult. That’s why Beyonce lip synced her performance at the last PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION. And why it’s very common for all types of performers to not even try to sing it live. Others, like Mark Anthony and Willie Nelson have sung it live and done brilliantly, but it’s hard.
There’s also another issue, stadiums are not built for acoustics, it’s the opposite. This is another reason why what Tiffany had to do was very difficult. None of these are excuses and there is no need for excuses. Tiffany did her job and completed it in every way. But those things make what she in fact had to do very difficult, even when dealing with the top 1% of the top 1% of singers in the US. Look at the huge fail of Lee Hi singing for the first time in a stadium at Psy’s concert. That wasn’t just nerves or breathing. It’s literally a different type of singing singing in a stadium that one has to learn how to do.
Tae also didn’t do great either but they were both fine. I tend to think that it was a learning experience for everyone involved at SM singing in a huge American stadium, dealing with the audio equipment, feedback, and crap acoustics of these ballparks. It’ll get better.
I also come from a long line of singers and have been in choirs much of my life. The American national anthem is difficult to sing for most people, and I have observed that it is especially tricky for altos (which I believe Tiffany is).
Having said that, I was also there and overall thought she did great. She went really flat twice and was a bit peaky on a a couple high notes (“glare” in “rockets red glare” comes to mind) but compared to many famous singers she held her own quite well. Also, let’s remember that the majority of her singing is for pop music – which (as much as I have recently grown to love these girls) is not exactly the most skillful type of singing. Coming from that background I thought she did a spectacular job.
Tiffany did alright! It wasn’t the best, though it wasn’t bad either.
Why can none of the girls throw :P
Yuri can!
All three did just fine. Tiffany did an excellent job with our national anthem, one of the hardest songs ever to sing well. Sunny at least almost got the pitch to the plate! LOL! Also Taeyeon did fantastic as usual.
Good job all three!
it isn’t very hard to sing believe me it is just the way you sing it
Taeyeon in blue is so….stunnning….more like a…goddess
it takes a lot to get Americans to genuinely and enthusiastically cheer the performance of a foreign national anthem…
Score one for Taengoo, she was breathtaking in every way.
It doesn’t matter which country you’re from, you have to be proud & impressed with those girls.
Taeyeon’s singing was amazing. I thought it couldn’t get any better, but Tiffany’s singing was ahhhmazing. Her rendition was original and you could tell the crowd loved it. Very positive promotion for Girls’ Generation in the US.
wow, cant believe they spelled taeyeon’s name wrong
Well of all three it’s the most “foreign” to us Americans. Heck I have to check the spelling sometimes of some of the girls names when I type them. LOL!
It happens…
TIFFANY IS SOOOO PRETTY OMGIIIEEEEEEEE
WOW WOW WOW
Kinda annoying they spelt her name wrong :( haha
Great ~♥
Who is the guy in picture 4… anybody know? Taeyon looked and sounded beautiful!
Yeah, I found out who it was, from another picture not posted here. That guy is a Korean speaking German guy who earned Korean citizenship a long time ago. Kinda famous in Korea. I’m surprised that he was even in LA.
Thanks..
