Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun revealed how they almost did not appear on the popular American talk show “Late Show with David Letterman”. She told this story on SBS’s “Strong Heart” on February 28th.
Seohyun surprised everyone by saying, “While we were happy about being asked to appear on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’, after discussing it with the members, we came to the decision not to go on.” She added, “It was because ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ is a talk show that is carried out while sitting, and we would be at a disadvantage when performing on their stage. Because it was a talk show stage, it was too small for all of our members to even stand in a line.” Seohyun continued, “But after giving it some more thought, we decided to go on the show and recorded after rehearsing numerous times.”
Seohyun also talked about the behind-the-scenes story of appearing on a French TV show.
During the recording, Seohyun revealed, “We were the first Korean singers to appear on the popular French program ‘Le Grand Journal’. It was an honor because it is a program that has had Beyonce, Usher, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and other Hollywood stars on it.” She added, “I wasn’t just happy thinking that we were there as representatives of Korea in France, but I was really surprised when the audience cheered for us in Korean.”

seohyun jjang!
Wow.. interesting.. I salute soshified because there are a lot of SONEs from all over the world.. We have someone who was there as the audience.. envy him.. haha.. btw I have another translation in my country’s fandom.. it mentioned that tiffany cried when she knew that SNSD were invited to late show with david letterman.. and because of that, the girls knew that this is a very big show in USA just by looking at tiffany and they wanted to give their best but there was a problem with the stage and bla bla bla.. you can connect it with this article.. haha..
IKR!
I’m sure it’s tough to come to a decision to do the shows…
I’m happy that they made the right choice to try it out :)
daebak!
i don’t relly know what to say…
Wow, that would have been a waste if they didn’t take the Letterman invitation. The US Sones wouldn’t have been able to see them. Wohoo! French Sones made the girls happy. You rock!
I’m so happy Seohyun has such a great impression of the french fans !
I was one of the lucky SONEs in the audience on the French TV show.
The atmosphere was no joke : as soon as the girls appeared the set became so bright and cheerful !!!
Actually the screams were louder live than on screen, I think they reduced the sound of the crowd…
It’s true that the set is very small, there isn’t so much people usually…
After the song I was so lucky (and well placed just behind the girls) I could greet them !!!
During the interview I could see how happy and comfortable they were of being there !
They were smiling and joking all along when we screamed their names :-)
I hope they’ll be back soon for an SM TOWN in Paris…
SNSD Fighting !!!
im so glad to see the hot response that they recieved…^^ it really IS a global shidae….u deserve this girls…cant wait to chk out this ep of strong heart :D always supporting u girls! stay well!
Seohyun unnie don’t be surprise since S<3NE is every where in the world. Nothing is impossible for GIRLS' GENERATION and S<3NE
Soshi does their vest at everything. This makes them even more commendable for not only caring about their appearance on shows, but also taking into consideration that they want show their best performance for their fans. I’m so happy that they get to be invited to overseas shows. It makes me proud to be their fan. :3
daebaaakk!! snsd fighting!! i’m proud to be a sone~~
Like most people here, I am glad that they decided to go on. I think that it must have been not only the chance to have such great exposure but also to a chance to give American SONEs a chance to see the girls’ on an American stage. I am glad that they worked well with the stage and while I could see a little that it was too small for what they were used to – they KILLED the performance and did not over or under-step ever. I was blown away and am still blown away every time I see it and I know they must feel great pride when they think on it. They managed to pull this off! I look forward to more American shows with SNSD!
Wow they even considered not to perform because they’re afraid they could’t give the best because of the stage limitation?
The girls earned more respect from me because of this. SNSD fighting!
this shows that the girls really don’t care much about fame, or being the first. they worry about how to put up their best performance on stage, not for sones alone but for any spectator. this is one of the many reasons why they are loved by almost everyone and why they are a record breaking girl group. I’m very proud of our girls.
Good thing the girls eventually came to a decision to be on the show ~ There may never be a chance to be on ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ again..
The girls did an amazing and wonderful job on stage anyhow.
The remix, the dancing, and the outfits were all astonishing <3
all i have to say is that im glad they decided to go on afterwards. SNSD new album has been the best thing in modern american music XD
the girls really take the utmost pride in their craft.
i don’t think they were being insensitive to american
sone when they first decided to not perform on the
show. they just didn’t want to put forward a performance
that they felt would be lacking for their audience. they
want to have their best performance every time they
take the stage. and for all of us that we able to witness
that, despite their concerns, it was their best performance.
these were epic moments in musical history and ones that
all of sone are happy the girls could take part in!
