Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, TVXQ and other SM Entertainment singers have been garnering attention after their sales numbers from the past three years were revealed.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service’s data analysis retrieval and transfer system, Girls’ Generation made 17.003 billion won in 2009, 30.044 billion won in 2010, and 21.737 billion won up to the third quarter of 2011. Up until the third quarter of 2011, they had recorded sales of 68.811 billion won. Including the fourth quarter, which was when “The Boys” was released, it would be well over 70 billion won and over 100 billion won if it included sales from their Japan promotions.
Girls’ Generation’s 68.811 billion won revenue makes up 42% of the 161.954 billion won earned within the last three years by SM Entertainment’s top five artists, Super Junior, TVXQ, SHINee, f(x) and Girls’ Generation.

Then how much do the girls actually get to put in their banks?? I wonder…
SNSD jjang!!! that’s almost half of the revenues of 5 idol groups.
Always proud of our girls <33
SM definitely have the best artistes..
a revenue of 70 billion won is already considered a LOT..
SNSD really makes us proud :)

Wow that’s a lot of money! snsd jjang!
It would be interesting to know the net profit though; ie revenue-cost. I imagine there’s a lot of money spent on promotion/training/getting good songs etc.
That was what I was thinking. If you take out all of the production costs, allocated labor costs, travel, etc., etc., then the actual net probably gets pretty small. in the US, a band typically makes about 13% of the record sales–with the bulk going to the label and distributors. And then out of that 13% comes the money to pay managers, lawyers, producers, etc., With SNSD I’m guessing that SM pays for everything and the girls are probably on some sort of salary+bonus structure. But let’s say the girls receive 10% of the gross (since we don’t know the net profit), then that becomes 7B won or about $6MM and change. You divide that by 9 and you have around $500K per girl. I think the girls probably earn way more money doing commercials, magazines or TV dramas. I don’t know what their contract terms are, but in the US, the agent would keep probably 10% of the negotiated salary with the remainder going to the performer. If they were doing a TV show with a salary of $150K, then they would net $135K under a normal performer/agent relationship. The other indirect income is from living and clothing expenses–the dorm is paid for in its entirety and a lot of the designer clothes that the girls wear are probably paid for by the company. I’m sure the girls are financially comfortable, but they should definitely save their money. The SM executives, on the other hand, are probably banking some serious dollars.
It doesn’t really add up all that much if you consider that it’s divided among 9 members. But they do have a lot compared to most of us. Hahaha! :D
daebak! snsd jjang!
Dayum, these chicks be Rollin in dough, assuming they get a fair amount of cash from that cut. 100 billion won, that’s a looott. Is this also counting their Japanese album? Cause man did that sell, nearly a milli sold, past a mill? Idk, but man did that album sell, oh, and the repackaged jap album too.
Whoops, meant 70 mill.
If 5 billion won per member is correct, they make 4.44 million USD each a year (not bad, but not nearly as much as someone as popular as they are should be making). I wonder if this includes the CFs and other things they do.
Obviously, I don’t think these girls are too worried about money.
This only amounts to record and DVD sales. CFs and other activites goes to each member separately. SM might take a little bit because they are the agent.
This is the truth. We should invite some other fandoms to come here to see the truth. Certain fandoms have been complaining that SM are biased to SNSD, and saying that SM have been using their oppa’s resources to support SNSD. In fact, SNSD have been using their own hardworking-earned money to develop their career. It looks like the other way round.
daebak ^_^..rest sometimes soshi ^_^
Soshi Fighting!!!!!
that amount was divided between Sm and GG and then divided 9times again. Not so much for a top star like GG(around 5billion won per member)
Girls Generation have to share about 10% or 5% of that Money per year. And its 5-10% into 9 girls. SM gives the least amount of money to their artists out of most companies. :S
well…
I do hope they themselves get a lot from that… :))
So around 61mil USD.
Wonder how much SM takes and how much girls get.
Well Since Sunny’s Uncle founded and runs SM I think they get a good share of the cash
wow
