Some call them nine angels. Others rave about nine goddesses. Their beauty is mesmerizing, and their voices resonate like distant church bells on a sunny spring day. When light shines upon them, these girls seem to glow. When they look our way, their gazes force our hearts to skip a beat. We momentarily forget to breathe.
They are not perfect, but they are hard working. They make mistakes. That certainly is what makes them real, in the sense that they do not sway from reality. Girls’ Generation has the magical power to make nations scream like crazy fangirls. But despite the fame, fans from all over the world are still able to relate to the girls in one way or another. This is what makes this fandom so special. It brings connection. As we laugh with them on variety shows and feel our hearts swell up in pride as they win awards, SONEs realize that they are not so different from Girls’ Generation themselves. Just because the girls are very famous doesn’t make them inhuman all of a sudden. Even though they are extremely professional on stage, they are really nothing more than normal beings like you and I. This is the amazing part about Girls’ Generation. They know that they are recognized all over the world, but this didn’t force even one of the girls to change who they are. Four years later, these nine girls are still dorks. Four years later, each member of Girls’ Generation is still who they were from the start. They still laugh too loud on stage and zone out when people are talking to them. They are still acting their age and living life at its fullest. Popularity didn’t compel any of the nine to change into someone they are not. Fame means nothing if we lose sight of who we are.
That is the message that Girls’ Generation wishes to convey. They do not want us to think that they are perfect. Remember, perfection does not exist. In fact, these girls are just as flawed as you and me and everyone around us. On stage, each girl has forgotten her lines, danced the wrong moves and been in the wrong spot. However, this just proves that they are human. When they laugh at each other’s mistakes and joke about them, we are taught that mistakes aren’t anything to be ashamed of. Girls’ Generation wants to tell their fans that no one is perfect and things go wrong. Mistakes are inevitable, but what’s important is that we have the confidence and strength to accept and learn from them. And where did the girls acquire all this from? Confidence is not something that a person is born with. No, it grows and flowers as it is nurtured by the people around us. When Girls’ Generation stands in a circle holding hands, when they embrace one another and support each other in any imaginable situation, this is when confidence flourishes. It feeds off the positive energy radiating from every member and in turn, inspires them to work harder and never give up. By outwardly showing their caring nature, Girls’ Generation is able to establish a sense of self-belief that inspires people all around them. It begins within the SoShibond as a light bestowed deep inside the hearts of each girl. Then as this seed grows, it is projected towards every SONE, encouraging us to have the strength to work hard in order to accomplish anything that we desire. So it is not a wonder that the adoration and thankfulness Girls’ Generation gives to SONEs is so easily reciprocated. In the end, we are just a big community on a journey to helping one another become better people.
Maybe it’s a good thing that perfection does not exist. It gives us a chance to embark on a lifelong journey for self-discovery. Through trial and error and various mistakes, we are slowly finding ourselves. Through Girls’ Generation, I know I have certainly found pieces of myself, and I have learned to accept things about myself. These nine girls don’t ever have to say it straightforwardly. They don’t even have to speak directly to me, but by simply watching them and sharing their joys has allowed me to discover a fraction of my raison d’être. They have given me a reason to smile. They taught me to look out for others around me, and be thankful for every little thing that has happened in life—for better or for worse. Because when I see these nine girls shedding tears of joy or sadness, when I see them chastising one another and then group hugging, I know all that I have invested into Girls’ Generation is worth it. By continuing to support this fandom, I know that Girls’ Generation will never stop fueling me with their hopeful light: a light that gives me the strength to fulfill my dreams, guiding me to never lose sight of who I am because living as someone else just isn’t worth it, especially when life is short.
Hurry, the moment is fleeting. We are only human after all.

Wow. This is the best article that I have red in my entire life. Now I know why I really do love SNSD. It’s not only because of their beauty, it’s because of their sisterhood and their confidence in being not perfect :) I used to think SNSD was just perfect and all. But now I know that they are not and I am proud to call myself not a soshi fan, but a soshi lover :) I love SNSD for who they truly are and I hope they will be the same as they are right now in the next few years :) SNSD, rock on and stay awesome :) Best of luck! And remember, fighting! :D God Bless! :)
Girls’ Generation and S♥NE’s are REAL!
Saranghae!
I don’t know what to say, but this post is nicely done, it’s something that I wanted to say, but I can’t speak it out. I don’t think I’ll regret on supporting Girls’ Generation forever, nothing to regrets on it. They taught me some values that I couldn’t learn through books nor dictionaries, values of friendships and loves. Although, the nine girls are well-know, they not even forget who they were, and till now, they’re the same people.
I’m proud on being one of their supporters.
THIS is the voice of SONE.. :) It’s my first time having an idol being my role models.. not to mention NINE of them… xDD
I am a proud sone.. <3
Unfortunately, this is the one major thing that antis will never understand, no matter how much we shout it from the mountaintops.
Yes, I agree. It is that connection between SNSD and SONEs that makes this whole thing special. You can see it in the concerts, in the live performances, where fans can show so much love and support to them through the fan events.
I really really admire the way that they can still be dorks and still come out all pretty and attractive doing so. For my experience, I like them when they are on stage. But I love them when they are on the talk shows, reality shows, variety shows, etc. It’s in watching those shows that made me fall in love with them.
This is really an inspirational piece. I do hope SNSD can read this one for them to know why and how much SONEs love them. I also hope that others would also read this to understand why SNSD and SONEs are like this.
These words just encouraged me :) there are some projects in my life that i wanted to start but dindnt try for being lazy but that you said about “living as someone else just isnt worth it” really motivated me!
Thx! :D
And that about Sones is true, I like many artists but never get to love them since they always become arrogant when success but these girls arent like that and their personalities are just adorable ♥
wonderful post !! This is a must read for everyone who knows SNSD, SONE, especially to those ‘anti’ groupies who like to stalking, criticizing w/out knowing anything like what you’ve written here.
-proud to be SONE
SNSD fighting 4ever ^^
This really expresses so much of what I feel about Girls Generation. I try to explain to people why I love these girls, why I love them so much that my heart hurts when they are sad or insulted and when I tell them, it’s because I feel like I know them, those people look at me like I am obsessed and delusional. But the fact of the matter is that it’s true. SNSD creates a bonds with SONEs even though will never know each one individually. They open themselves to the world and hold nothing back. They cry, laugh, get sick and work their hardest on stage and off and are not ashamed to show it. They are strong proud women and they make sure to connect with the fans that gave them that strength.
And I pull confidence from their strength. I don’t quite recall when it happened or why or how….but I remember looking up one day and realizing how confident I was. Not cocky or vain but confident. I could walk straighter and feel confident in my own choices – something that in my 21 years of life I had only fleetingly experienced. And I knew it had something to do with SNSD. I still cannot place what it is or was that brought this change in me…but I know that it is here now and I know that it won’t leave. And when it wavers, I need only remember our girls. I need only remember their smiles and struggles and remember that even though they do not know me, they are cheering for me to always do my best.
So thank you FrozenArctic for writing this article. It was a pleasure to see that I am not alon in my feelings of love for SNSD.
Excellent read. Thank you for the wonderful article.
I really needed to know this, today.
It has been a though day for me but i should go on.
Thank you for this! It’s so beautifully written..
This was a really inspirational article! Well said, I couldn’t agree more!
Actually, i start loving these 9 angels when i saw their “Story Behind SNSD” from MTV.. From there, i can relate that they are just no different from us.. I do adore their cuteness and their talent, but that is not the main point of my interest.. When Yuri talked about how she and her mother need to meet at the train station during the trainee day, i realize that this is not an easy journey for these 9 girls.. And the more the story unfold, especially how they manage to overcome the hardship of their trainee days, when they rarely can meet their parents and friends, that is what inspire me the most, and of course the main reason why i become a SONE.. They are a hardworking generation that sacrifice a lot of things to become our source of energy..
I mean, although i’m a man, i would just give up at some of point if i got a training schedule like them.. :) So, 4 years after debut, i can say that i don’t see how much they differ from what i’ve known.. XD.. And i still love and support them.. Each of their unique charm is something that you can’t find on the other girl band, anywhere in the world..
Nice post. SNSD saranghae. fighting! :D
Thank you for the amazing articles. I think it will remnd all Sone why we get into this fandom.
Of course Girls’ Generation is not perfect. They are human afterall. They make mistake and try harder to be better.
And their imperfectionist side makes me love them more. That’s when I can see their human side. They shed tears when they are sad, laughing like crazy when they are happy, burst out laughing when some of them making mistakes on stage, their dorkiness..That showed that they are also human like us.
I never regret being in this fandom. Girls’ Generation make us ONE.
nice post, really. this makes our love to the Girls stronger, based on their struggle to achieve success up until now.
let’s spread the words to other SONE around the world :)
Thank you so so so so so so so much for posting this. I really needed to read something like this now, this just really helped me in ways I can’t explain. Really appreciate it. Thank you and Girls Generation. :’)
From all off the members from Girls` Generation, here is what i have learned:
Right after their debut, in 2007, after lots of hard training, they did their first live performance in School of Rock. But then, they were criticized because people thought that they were just some random dance group.
But they didn`t give up and with their first single album Into the New World, the girls were beginning their career, and right after that they launched their first album Girls` Generation.
Their first album wasn`t a huge sucess like other groups had at that time, and they had to face many trials, fails and dropped many tears to be who they are today.
But after releasing many hits, like Gee, Genie, Hoot, Oh!, Mr Taxi and Run Devil Run, just as examples and now with their third album The Boys which is a Worldwide release, they are between the most successful musical groups in the world.
So from Girls` Generation I learned that with dedication, hard work, passion and union you can achieve anything you want! All you need is something in your heart that you want to express.
So Nyuh Shi Dae Saranghae!
Much love from Brazil!
Fighting!
Amazing article!!! I really love it. Some fans need to realize that they are not angels or perfect human being. They are not perfect, they has flaws, but this is why we love them, we do not worship them . We love them because they are real, because we can relate to them.
Mistakes are inevitable, but what’s important is that we have the confidence and strength to accept and learn from them.
This is one of the best article I’ve read. Thank you so much!!!
there is nothing better than being human. if perfect beings were to exist, they would be jealous of us. i am saying this for all of soshi and all of sone. we falter so often, we fail all the time. but can you imagine the feeling when you’ve failed at something ninety-nine times and then succeed on the one hundreth attempt? the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment is unrivaled by any perfect being. they will never know that ecstasy. you know our girls are human because when they do succeed, you can see that ecstasy in their faces, in their eyes. when they fail you see that same expression you are too familiar with. so when sone is able to see that familiarity in our girls, we feel nothing but connection and relatability. we are reminded that they share the exact same feelings we do. they can even see it when they look into our cheering faces. they see the ecstasy of sharing that moment with them. if either of us where perfect, that incredible connection would vanish. there would be no sadness at the time seperated from one another, that then led to the passion we felt when we are together. perfect beings do not know struggle, and therefore cannot feel triumph in the face of that struggle and the pride that comes with it. both soshi and sone are far from perfect. they are human, and there is nothing better than being human.
great article!!! :-)
I think of all the write-ups Soshified has done, this is by far the best.
Thid is te truth of why I am so captivated and in love with these nine dorky, loveable girls.
And it’s also a reminder that yes, the girls are just as human as you and me.
Great article!
this is so beautiful :’) thank you for sharing it ssf!
This reminds me why i love SNSD soo much.
Especially because they are still the same no matter how much they become famous
Thank you, thank you so much for writing this article. It gave me a better and bigger picture of why I’m in this fandom, why I’m so in love with these girls. May they be perfect or not, I will still love and support them. Because they are, our, Sones’, Girls’ Generation.
this remind me why im so captivated by them and became their one of many fans around the world..
Wow! This truly is an inspirational write-up! It has everything I want to say into why I love Girls’ Generation and fellow SONEs. Surely is, “This is what makes this fandom so special. It brings connection.”.
I love being a SONE! I love Girls’ Generation! :)
