” It’s hard to please everyone. ”
Now i love this phrase lol.
Actually, I expected loads of disappointment, mainly because the girls’ comeback was one of the most anticipated comeback of the year, so obviously people would have set high expectations for the girls. And with the Japanese album doing so well, the burden would add up even more.
Frankly speaking, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a single bit disappointed. Although I am, it is only because I feel that part of the the album went the wrong direction because of Tidey Riley. No offense, but I don’t think he even thought of producing the album as a K-Pop album in the first place, but instead as an American Pop album. I don’t question his credentials, but the man doesn’t know much about K-Pop and I don’t think he will ever try to. I’ve seen artists like Will-I-Am incorporating some aspects of K-Pop into his music, and it’s doing him justice. However, I’m not seeing Teddy doing the same with the girls. Instead, he only tweaks some songs with a little K-Pop essence, but still focusing on American Pop, which in my opinion kinda weakens some of the songs in the album, as K-Pop songs of course.
Setting that aside, I still feel that all parties involved in the process of making the album did the album just enough justice to go by. The girls worked hard on their Japanese album and it paid off, so it’s obvious that many would have high expectations for the girls in this album too as the girls were working as hard. But hey, setting aside the Japanese album, I think this album is pretty decent and is still worth every single cent that I’ve paid for. It’s hard but I’d rather look at the glass half full instead. I’ve just briefly listened through all the songs in the album and quite a number of songs may take some time to get used to, but it’s normal because I felt the same about their Japanese album and also Oh!, so I believe these are good songs. Although I have no faith in Teddy Riley, my bet will always be on Kenzie and Yoo Youngjin, and I’m thankful that they were producing some of the songs. Also to add on, this album feels like it still has some of their Japanese album vibe, maybe because some of the Japanese album producers were also involved in this as well. And because of that, it sorta counteracts the American Pop vibe that Teddy has put into the album which creates some sorta balance? I think if this album was produced with the mindset of not appealing to the American Pop music, then maybe it would’ve been better, but what do I know right? I’m not complaining, at least not about the album, just Teddy :)
These are just my opinions. So, I’m pretty sure others would have different thoughts as well :)
the song is okay….im kinda of disappointed. its just i hate how the girls have so much talent and potential but it cant be shown through a song like The Boys. They need to stay away from Teddy Riley
To people who don’t like the title track very much (like me), don’t worry. The rest of the album has plenty of upbeat songs and ballads.
They look gorgeous in the videos and I can actually understand everything they say on the English version. I give them a lot of credit for the work they put into expanding to English. That all being said, the music isn’t all there. It feels kind of empty at parts. I like music that has some meat and lots of layers built in. I feel the girls did their best to make the most of what they were given though. I much prefer their more upbeat, and lighthearted songs. One of the things that made me fall in love with them was their cute side. This just tends to feel like all of the other groups these days trying to be “sexy”. On the other hand, that tends to be what most Americans look for in their music, so hopefully this will go over well in the States. Personally though, I switched to K-pop because I didn’t like the things being produced over here…
LOL at your last sentance. OH THE IRONY. XD
I have to say that this is a very disappointing release for me. The song is probably the weakest ever released by SNSD. I know it’s not the girls’ fault, so my disappointment lies with SM and Teddy Riley.
I am sad to see how many people are disappointed but at the same time I understand that everyone has their own tastes, likes and dislikes and that this song does take a bit to get used to. I hope that SONEs will remain happy with our girls and find something on The Boys CD that they like and that makes it worth it (IE I personally found Wake Up to top Hoot on The mini album).
On a final note – I want to say – to those who are disappointed in the song or MV, please do not turn or bash those who like it and think that it is great. I am not saying any name but I have seen people saying things like “true fans are the ones that understand flaws and don’t blindly love everything” or things like that imply that those who like the MV and Song are just blind followers and not true fans. Everyone has different tastes. There are bound to be those who love, like, don’t care, dislike and hate the MV and Song. And they – as long as their points are valid (ie non anti comments like ‘these girls are ugly and talentless’) – such as the chorus is clunky or something like that, then there is no reason to say that they are right or wrong.
Now – as for me
I am eagerly waiting for this CD to arrive! I listened to samples but refuse to listen to anything “full” aside from The Boys because I want to enjoy it in my own time. I also can’t wait to see the US Maxi album in stores and I am curious as to what it will entail. I’m sure as November comes around, more information will be released but I am estimating more English Songs. Not sure if I’m expecting English versions of their hits or if I’m expecting English versions on the songs on this album but I am expecting English tracks. I am really proud to be SONE at this point in time because I think the new sound they have is more my style and I love that they are getting bigger with each step they take!
I agree with you 100%. I love the song because is not typical, and the video is stylish, not trashy!
It’s totally awsome!
And all of songs in album is really wonderful!!!!!!!!
A bit disappointed in the song. Sounds overproduced, too many vocal effects/autotuning, the rap/spoken parts in English don’t sound good. The korean version of the song sounds a bit better, but it might just be because I don’t notice the pronunciation/intonation as much. Nice visuals on the video, the girls look fantastic, but the song doesn’t do it for me. Looking forward to the other music on the albumn though.
I am disappointed as well. I thought the vocals would build up to something, but they never did. After all this hype, I feel pretty let down with the entire album. I really like the song Sooyoung wrote though (How great is your love). But unfortunately that’s the only one.
Please forgive me, SNSD. I just didn’t like it. I don’t want you guys turning into generic American pop (which this entire album turned out to be). I hope you’ll do better next time.
Same goes with me.. a lil’ bit disappointed with the sounds..
The other songs seems more attractive compared to this songs.
Hopefully they will do better next time..
i’m so excited for their comeback stage! i wonder what outfits they’ll wear
Awesome song!~
But somehow they don’t really catch my attention.
But still, can’t wait for their comeback stage!
DAEBAK
This is awesome! I love the English version~~~ As I finished my piano lesson, I instantly rushed off to search for the MV. Stunning! It’s so catchy and it’s already stuck in my head XD

great MV! this image suits them well. they’re all amazing in a whole new level. yoona living up to her ‘face of SNSD’ title is just great! and yuri’s close ups are so solid. she leaves a strong impression.

AMAZINGGG!!!!! Love u forever SNSD ur are the besttt
WOOO AMAZING! Though I can’t really follow the tune of the song it sounds really awesome!
thank goodness for a lunch break or i would have had to wait until tonight! phew! anyway…there
has been so much anticipation for this album, whether through the postponement or the general
excitement for the girls’ new album, but there were very high expectations and anticipation for
this release. and somehow, even with the bar set so high, the girls exceeded it by leaps and bounds.
it wasn’t even close. every new challenge has brought about an equally amazing triumph. they just have
whatever it is that makes someone special. i am so excited and happy for the girls. this album will do
amazing things for them. they deserve every ounce of its success. congrats girls!!!
from what I see, this Music Video is unlike the other MV that SNSD has performed before..
this seems to be more performance based & will be very DAEBAK in live performance & music shows ^^
i love E-version better, well may be bcoz i’m not good with korean lang. =p
i need to work harder to learn Korean language so i can sing along w/ our SoShi. this is the most difficult song for me to follow….maybe it’s the beat i think.
Totally Love it. I love the english one better. I am kinda disappointed that Tiffany didn’t have any singing part at all, but at least we get to see her rap!!
