SM Entertainment’s President, Lee Soo Man, gave a special lecture on the ‘Korean Wave’ (한류) to 22 MBA
students from MIT Sloan School of Management on the 24th at SM’s Head Office.
The student’s visit was made possible when they requested to learn the know-how of the success to
Korea’s Entertainment Business Industry in the pop culture of Asia and the Korean Wave’s global strategy.
That day, President Lee explained the CT (Culture Technology) foundation of SM and its growth in the
Korean wave strategy, as well as his logic, “The Best stars are born in the place with the Greatest
market,” using the possibility of growth from the China market as an example. Furthermore, he explained
the increase of Asia’s pop culture influence 10 years from now. Students asked questions such as, the
difference of Korea’s CT strategy with American and Europe, how the management of intellectual property
rights of Korea’s pop culture came to be, and other diverse questions.
MIT student, Melissa Edward, commented, “The lecture was really impressive” and that she’s “learned a lot
about Korea Wave’s global strategy and CT as well as take a new interest in the Korean Wave.”
Actress Lee Yeon Hee and members from the group Super Junior and SNSD attended the lecture as well.
* Note *
Korean Wave, also known as Hallyu or Hanryu, refers to the popularity of
South Korean pop culture in other Asian countries.

Damn… lecturing MIT Students. I think Lee Soo Man’s amazing, really.
Seems like only Jessica, Sunny, and Tiffany attended the lecture.
