SM Entertainment has announced that Jessica is no longer part of Girls’ Generation, leaving the group with eight members. Jessica will remain as an artist under SM Entertainment, but will not promote with the other members. The entertainment label will continue to support both Jessica’s individual activities and the rest of the group.
Earlier this morning, Jessica posted on her Weibo account to inform fans that she would no longer be a member of Girls’ Generation. Her post read, “I was excited about our upcoming fan events only to shockingly be informed by my company and 8 others that as of today, I’m no longer a member. I’m devastated – my priority and love is to serve as a member of GG, but for no justifiable reason, I am being forced out”.
Jessica also later added a comment that has since been deleted, saying, “You guys are very special people that I love dearly, therefore you deserve to hear the truth from me. I’m deeply saddened and hurt by those who I trusted and hope that you don’t ever have to experience this kind of pain.”

I’m in complete shock and am really trying not to cry. I desperately waanted to see them live altogether, and now that can never happen. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I’ve been following SNSD for 6 years and I can’t believe that this morning I woke up to loads of articles about Jessica leaving. I thought it was one of tthose stupid troll fake facebook news posts but I was in meltdown when I found out it was true… and that it’s *ONCE AGAIN* SM screwing everyone over. Seriously, WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON THIS YEAR?!?!?! I’m not even a big EXO fan, but was sad to see him go due to to poor negotiation. Sulli has gone on hiatus from f(x) (Who are one of my most favourite girl groups only second to SNSD and T-ara) and the circumstances around that were so unclear and weird- again, poor management. And now this!
The reasons for forcing her out on the surface are ridiculous! She is *not* using “SNSD ” to head her clothing brand and quite clearly based on her weibo post SM wouldn’t negotiate at all. Obviously, none of us know what’s been happening behind the scenes but SNSD are 9. The have always been 9, were marketed on the soshi bond and being 9 forever (then again I believe it’s a similar “together we are one” thing for EXO…) I know they’ve lasted one heck of a lot longer than other groups especially with the same members, but for crying out loud, I can’t look at the number 9 without thinking of SNSD and I’m sure loads of kpop fans are the same. Now SM are suddenly going “oh it’s 8 now. Everything is fiiiiiinnnnne, move along!” Are you kidding me?!?!?!? SM are treating SONEs and Jessica like dirt and I can’t stand it! She’s brought them god knows how much money as both part of SNSD and through individual activities and this is the thanks they give her, and SONEs.
Like someone else said- this is the beginning of the end of SNSD, and although I still cheer them on for their Japanese release and TaeTiSeo, I’m been left with a horrible taste in my mouth. This is not how I imagined SNSD would go.

Apologies for the typos, I’m quite riled up. ^^;
Also, I don’t usually look for “hidden messages” in things but if you haven’t already heard DIVINE and read the translation of the lyrics… go do so. It’s heartbreaking and they knew it would be.
told a long time to report on it, wow.
This comes as no surprise given how SM likes wielding absolute control over their artists. Given how she openly expressed wanting to leave SM in favor of other activities/career opportunities/running her own business and due to the constant shifts in schedules and small yield in earnings and royalties plus constant work load and lack of rest, this type of feeling could become infectious within the group and SM wanted to put a stop to this before the other 8 began to rebel and make greater demands, so they signed them to a 3 year contract extension to lock them into specific terms of agreement and to prevent other labels from getting SNSD. Then they followed that by convincing the other 8 to look out for themselves and their own careers and warned them of how one member could destroy the entire group and ruin SNSD careers and persuaded them to accept the fact that Jessica would be a financial and business liability to the groups future. Given how all other 8 worried SM would disband the group if they did not choose to release Jessica, they decided to make the business selection in favor of SM. It’s not something they wanted to make but when it comes to self preservation regarding their careers, this was the only choice and SM forced their hand on the matter. No one can blame them because if the other 8 stood against SM, all their activities would have halted and SNSD would cease to exist. SM could have filed a lawsuit against them for breaching their agreement and for violating their contracts and the legal dispute would result in months if not years of fighting over royalties claims, etc and it would destroy their careers, It’s not like the other 8 wield a great amount of power or influence over the label. They are still employees under contract….
I agree with these comments. I have nothing nice to say about SM. Here in America I believe the Girls could get out of their contract with SM. But in Korea I believe it would come at great costs to them personally.
I love these girls and it pains me to read Jess wiebo ” SM and 8 others”. There is no way I could believe that the Girls could ever hurt each other, not without SM’s help. And hurt them, break their hearts, I believe is what SM has done in the name of business! Forgive me, but SM is just a bunch of assholes.
How is this even possible, when she has been a part of GG for so long. she will always be one of nine for us, but what will be of future performances, I’m afraid I will always see an empty spot, one that can’t be filled by anyone other than her. I genuinely wonder how it will be with a different choreography and without her destinct voice everyone oh so loves.
Well come on! Jessica is a beautiful person! And everyone loves her! Everyone is sad about this! #sosJessica! I was very sad, but life goes on!
Kisses,
Meltaeyeon
I think that the rest of the members should quit, just to piss off those SM Entertainment corporate jerks responsible for forcing out Jessica. No more SNSD and no more TTS. Just nothing. Just to show them that once a member, always a member. Show those a*****e f*****s whose more important. And it’s definitely those 9 Girls who are more important. I’m still a fan of the NINE GIRL GROUP SNSD. F*** you SM Entertainment and the high horse you rode in on.
i’m very sad to hear this. but looking at different perspective, we’ve been together for 7 years, is considered an achievement. of course i’m shocked at first but i.m not a person whose gonna cry all day unable to accept this news.
although there will be only 8 from now on, still FOREVER 9 will always in my heart my mind and my soul
that bond can never be broken. it is something I as fan will hold most dear.
sure we’ll see Jess in other occasion rather than on stage with the other.
please give them your continuous support and love.
I sincerely love these girls..
GG 9 forever..
I still dont know what to say and to think about this, i have mix feelings and i’m pretty sure sica didnt really wanted to leave SNSD, or she woudnt have made such a post on weibo… I dont think someone can stan SM when their idols are there because they sure put a lot on the idols shoulder, i’m frustated and devasted, i just wish SM can realize their mistake.
i have question(s) that i really want to ask. First according to Kpop news, they are indirectly saying that jessica was being force out of the group by SM and the 8 other members. Is it true? If yes, we as the fans really want to know the reason, If no, why are the members still keeping quiet until now. If this is solely SM’s decision, we as the fan have the right to know and we as will definitely support the girls till the end.
SM, frankly speaking if this is how you are treating international singers under your company, you are not ready to go international, and of course you will be boycott ultimately if you continue to do this to the other groups under you. Without Jessica OR ANYONE IN THE GROUPS, everything went back zero, 7 years of foundation going to waste. Face the fact SM, the reason why SM shares is so high, one of the most important reason is the GG, you want to tear GG apart, you are going to lose your standing in the market. especially the international market.
Sulli is on a hiatus, not sure why Jessica couldnt either.
I would like to know the other 8’s opinion, but I have a feeling it’ll be biased due to pressure from SM.
It’s all speculation, but one thing I know that is fact is that SM’s PR department is complete and utterly crap. It could’ve been a farewell at a concert so it ends on amicable terms. Heck, even a joint statement is better than this.
I don’t want to give up on GG. Let’s sign this petition!
http://www.change.org/p/sm-entertainment-keep-jessica-in-snsd
gonna quit SNSD. find it hard. and yes, everyone will start to leave as they all will grow old. just like KAHI in AS.
This was something I didn’t expect to happen… How could this happen? They’re 9 and always be 9 but having Jessica leave will be 8. Its not right. She shouldn’t be forced out of her own career! I’m so sad now and it doesn’t make sense to me. I can’t imagine a music video without Jessica. I hope SM changes their decision this is so sad to handle.
Jessica unnie, please don’t go
jessi have it coming, his was a decision made by the company as well by the others members, her first responsibility was with GG, but when one of them start to pay more attention to other things is better to let her go, the bond has been broken now is just a matter of time before the others start to to do the same.
that bond can never be broken.. for 7 years only focusing on the group.. i think its time for these girls o have different goals in life..
i don’t expect these girls to dance till they’re in their 30s. be reasonable..
better for them to learn to stand on their own feet now to prepare for the future..
they already have right to put themselves first..
i think its normal for idols to have different side income.
They just renewed their contract prior to all of this. I’m more suspect of SM’s statement than Jessica’s statement.
If SM is truly respectful to their artists, SM would’ve had final farewell at a concert or some joint statement instead of this fiasco.
Their PR department needs a rework, they suck this whole year with all the handling of all the problems.
I’m trying not to panic
– I was prepared that some of the Girls may be leaving when the private life takes over. most of the are closer to 30 than 20.
– Jessica had decided to leave anyway to pursue her personal career (and to get married, presumably). I don’t believe in stopping the activities for a while. Once you go, you’re gone.
– The only thing that saddens me is the way this was done, which was unprofessional from the side of SM. I don’t know what happened behind the curtains (I’m sure a lot of happens, they are humans), but this is one piece of the long series of mismanagement by SM. You can love SoShi but you don’t need to like SM.
Whatever Jessica may do in the future, she will always be one of the nine and she will be remembered as one member of the Girls Generation. To the extent that it may be burdensome to be known as one of GG rather than as Jessica Jung successful in her own business, but I think she’ll forgive us that.
OMG. this is classic. SICA is to smart, connected and independent for SMTOWN. So they force her out. Be careful SMTOWN music biz can get pretty rough. You just went on the list no one wants to be on. I strongly urge you to redeem yourself immediately
Ohhhhhh all hell is about to break loose D:
I really thought that snsd will grow together older, I thought that they will have successfully spand kpop in every corner in the world, I thought they still promote even they are married a have children, I thought because of their unique chemistry they will never disband…but today sm proved me wrong. I cannot find the words to express this pain I feel in my heart right now. My head is screaming and my body is bursting in adrenaline…today is one of the saddest days in my life.
I will continue being a sone, support and give love ALL 9 girls no matter what they do or what they are forced to do.
Through 7 years with 8 other member, i believe Jessie won’t choose her company instead her friends and fans. SM don’t want Jessie be SNSD anymore. If they really care about SNSD, even Jessie has her own company, it always be ok. Right? Form many information sources, Jessie has to leave GG because she want to learn more about fashion design. So her schedule maybe coincide GG’s schedule. So what? Why don’t let they continue do their work like a small group. When Jessie finishes her education, she will come back with us? Aigoo, i really don’t want this things happen. However, i still congratulate Jessie because she made a company by herself. It’s really awesome, she is a wonderful woman. Women idols always have their fabulous in a short time, not like men idols. That’s why Jessie established a company for her furture. :( so proud of her. My english is not good, so if i have some mistake, just forgive me. I just want to say my opinion, thank you so much :(
Just like SuperJunior is always 13 members, Girls Generation will always have 9 members. The end.
I believe that SM is just out of their mind, why would they make Girls’ generation a 8 person group when their main attractive is the 9-people bond? I believe that Jessica won’t cheat on the fans, why is she forced to leave the group, that is so unfair to her. She has spent nearly her whole life preparing and working for GG, it is just so cruel to take all that from her. I hope that SM can treat this thing seriously and I hope that all the other 8 girls together with SONE can stop this from happening. Because all of us believes that without 9 members, GG is not GG any more. God Bless Girls’ Generation, God Bless Jessica.
I’m sorry but I think this is the beginning of the end. 1st Hyo’s exboyfriend drama (that SM brushed off really well), 2nd the other SNSD member dating, especially Taeyeon (SM couldn’t handle that one well), and now one member leaving (terrible handling on SM’s side).
Even if Jessica really requested leaving on her own, forcing her out has left such a bad image. SM promoted SNSD always with this uberstrong sisterhood bond and now they broke it.
But SNSD lasted way longer than most Korean girl groups and their success won’t be achieved again. I’m glad I could witness them grow and mature. I’m thankful for the last seven years and the month or maybe years to come
I agree. Having the total of nine members together the whole seven years is a miracle, not in Korean music business but in the whole world. We Sones have been extremely lucky. Many girl Groups have suffered changes with fewer members in a shorter time, even through death.
There will be always Girls Generation, whoever leaves for what reason. They will bear this name as long as they appear in public in any connection.
For the same reason, there will always be Soshified. We want to know of them and tal about them even if they are not together.
Sorry if I made this sound like an obituary. What I’m trying to say is “they are not going anywhere, they still exist”
It’s my first time saying any kind of word about this situation, but still… My mind is blank. I just want to say something to Soshified staff: thank you for posting Jessica’s deleted message. Really… It’s very important to not remove it.
NOOOO!!!! Please this cant be happen!!! I really cant take this truth!!
Its really hard for me. I feel that someone i love is leaving me behind though i’m just one of a millions fans.
Please SM, please GG, please Jessica.. Please reconsider this decisions. Please consider sones feelings.
Its really hard for me to take.
Please dont go Sica.
This is the saddest story in this year. Oh my God! I think i cant move on.
I couldn’t imagine how GG would like if Jessica is not there.
Somehow, i feel angry and dissapoint with all of them. I feel like they dont think about us. I know i’m being greedy and selfish. But i really cant take it.
Please i hope this is only a dream.
I can’t accept this! can’t they just talk it out. I think Jessica still wants to be part of GG and obviously base on her weibo posts, she doesn’t want to leave the group. But since she started her own business and probably needs to focus and study about the career she has chosen she needs to minimize her activities with GG. Maybe she wants to study abroad for maybe a few months and then comeback as a SNSD. Just like Suju when they have military service, the members leave for 2 years and come back after that, I know it is mandatory but what I’m trying to say is that can they just treat it like that.
I can totally relate to your sentiments. Why can’t they handle Jessica-unnie’s situation with Sulli’s situation? Sulli asked to have her schedule on hiatus and they permit her, why not on Jessica-unnie’s case? They should have let her do her thing for her future, then comeback as a member. I don’t believe that the members wanted Unnie to leave the group for they all know and understand that they all have to do something for their future. I wish SM handled this matter better.
