Yesterday we featured camiiseta (Cami) in Part 1 of this month’s Soshified Spotlight. In Part 2, we move to taeyeonsheart, or Cyrus. A loyal Taeganger, Cyrus is a laid-back San Diegan who has a top-secret yet cool-sounding (probably because it’s so top-secret) job with the military. Cyrus is also a Project Leader, handling wristband production and distribution and spreadsheets for distribution of other Soshified goodies. Cyrus has been involved with meetups in the United States, including the one before SMTOWN LA and the one this past January, also in Los Angeles. However, Cyrus also has a wide variety of interests outside of Soshified, including fixing and racing cars, working on computers, and playing drums and woodwinds, among other things that you’ll see below.
What is your first name?
Cyrus
How did you find out about Soshified and why did you decide to join?
The answer to that boils down to my original SM Ent. bias, BoA. I was browsing one of BoAs fanforums in 2008 and noticed some talk about a girl who was one of BoA’s backup dancers for an Mnet performance. This girl turned out to be Hyoyeon, and from there I found SNSD, then eventually Soshified.
How did you come up with your screen name?
interestingly enough Soshified is the only forum where I have a completely unique screen name. I don’t know why, I guess I was just a Taengoo fan at first sight hah! People that know me know that I usually choose a specific username for accounts so I think it’s kind of interesting that I didn’t use it for here.
Where are you originally from, and where do you currently reside (city and country for both)?
SoCal for life! Born and raised in California, San Diego if you wanna get specific
If we were visiting you where you live for one day, where would you take us? Why are these places so significant?
if I were to pick one place it would probably be Pacific Beach. Most would choose the zoo or Sea World but I’m not really the theme park kind of guy. Pacific Beach, besides the beach itself, is cool because the area has lots of restaurants and places to hang out, perfect for a laid back vacation
Tell us a little about your life. What do you do full time and in your free time?
If I told you I would have to kill you, haha, but seriously. What I can say is that I work for the government/military. As for my free time I build websites from the ground up, develop apps for the iPhone
and am somewhat a car fanatic but that’s a whole ‘nother story. Oh and I play videogames too, yunho typical guy stuff.
Are you in the military or just work for them, or would I be dead afterwards if you answered this question as well?
I work for the military, thats all I can really say.
What’s the most interesting thing about you and/or that has ever happened to you?
I know how to Fly and operate an F/A-18 fighter jet, no lie haha. Lets just say that in the event of WW3, alien invasion or zombie attack, im able to volunteer to fly one just like they did in the movie Independence Day.
You know how to fly an F/A-18 for real? Is there anything special you have to learn flying a fighter jet that you don’t need to know when flying a civilian aircraft, and does it make it harder to fly? Can you perform any tricks with the Hornet?
Yes I really do know how to fly one haha, but I’ve never flown in the actual jet. Ill let you figure that one out for yourself , gotta keep some of the cool things secret for when you meet me in person. There isn’t anything particularly special you need to learn in order to fly the F18. Its just like any other high performance plane, you just have to watch out for those high G-forces. I’d say that this plane is so easy to fly that it basically fly’s itself, you would have to be pretty stupid to lose control of this jet. As for tricks, if you remember the game Star Fox 64, its kinda like that, do a barrel roll !
For people who are first meeting you (like most of us), how would you describe yourself?
Tall, quiet and I look mean or upset, from what im told. Once you actually meet me all that’s left is me being tall.
Tell us some things that most people don’t know about you that you think they should.
I’m pretty open about myself so there’s nothing really secret or big about me.
Is there anything big in your life that you’re working on? (This can be related to school, career, hobbies, family, friends, etc.)
I do kind of have a little side project I’m working on right now but Ill save that reveal for later in the year.
Are you able to give us a hint regarding this side project that you’re working on?
The side project I’m referring to is just a little something I’m creating that will work on your iPhone, which will bring SONE’s everywhere together, just like soshified does.
What are your interests outside of Girls’ Generation?
I’m gonna assume that this is referring to kpop still and this is a pretty loaded question. Everyone knows that I love BoA, I’ve been her fan since way back in 2001. Next down the list would be Goo Hara, ever
since I saw her on Invincible Youth, thanks to soshisubs.
How did you first become a fan of Girls’ Generation?
I saw a picture and Taeyeon and fell in love, need I say more lol
Who is your favorite member and why?
see previous answer lol. To my fellow Taegangers, SHAKE IT!
What is your favorite Girls’ Generation song and MV and why?
In general, with all music, I listen to and like whatever music sounds good to me, no matter the language. I can narrow my Girls’ Generation music likes to their more recent music though.
What is your favorite Girls’ Generation moment?
any time the girls laugh uncontrollably, you cant just choose one of those moments.
How has Girls’ Generation impacted your life, in specific areas or even as a whole?
I can definitely say that being in this fandom has made the world seem a lot smaller. There are many times where Im living in Korea’s time zone just so I can see them on tv. Ill keep this answer short because
I think the next question answers it better.
What do you like most about Soshified, and why? Any section in particular you’re attracted to?
I love that Soshified has introduced me to a big group of people who I can now consider friends online and in real life. I’ve met so many people at SM Town LA last year all because of Soshified. As for specific sections on the site, I can’t be without soshi subs and the fanaccount posts. Also the social longue, because of the big California thread which has been taken over by socal lol.
Why did you decide to join the Soshified staff, and why the particular job you have now?
I joined staff because I like helping out whenever I can. After being a volunteer at SM Town LA it gave me a great feeling of accomplishment. My position right now is Project Leader, im a greeny!
What exactly do you do? Do you enjoy this position? What do you like about it?
My position title says it all, I manage and coordinate soshified projects with the rest of the team. Id say its an enjoyable position. Being involved in big plans and projects is fun and when everything is all said and done you cant beat that feeling of accomplishment.
I noticed that Project Leaders have overall moderator powers in Soshified, having previously been Soshified Police. Do you do any moderating or policing as well? What exactly was Soshified Police and how did that turn into Project Leaders?
Most of us greens don’t really use those powers, save for the few times when there is no mod online at all. As for ssf police, I’m not sure what they did since I barely noticed them. I guess they were like ninja mods or something lol.
What is your favorite project that you’ve ever been involved in?
All of the projects had their enjoyable moments. Since this position is relatively new lots of projects are still in progress so I can’t really choose a favorite. To be quite frank, it’s tough work, not necessary in the physical sense, but a job’s a job regardless. There are smart, thankful people that make the job worthwhile however, and you’ll also be willing to make ends meet just for one of them to show gratitude.
Any interesting experiences when interacting with members?
Online, not really, I do wish more people would thoroughly read through stuff though, reading comprehension seems to be going the way of the dinosaur. As for in person there are many hilarious moments. One interesting moment would have to be, at around 10pm at night after one of our gatherings, me and a few other SONES went to go grab dinner at Little Tokyo, a tiny Japanese based suburb in Downtown Los Angeles. We spent pretty much thirty minutes searching for one of us who got lost (not naming any names). Another would be finding out one of my fellow project leaders buying a, what was it, 900 dollar, 1000 dollar bottle of Dom Parignon after SM Town LA? Not sure if it was a worthy investment, most people who come from out of state to attend a baller concert with 180 dollar seats wouldn’t douse himself with more oil when he’s already on fire.
$1,000 bottle of wine? Seriously? Must’ve been some party.
Haha I hope so, I didn’t get into the SM Town LA after party so I didn’t get to experience the event first hand unfortunately.
Yeah, I’ve noticed reading comprehension can be a problem sometimes on this site. Why do you think that is, and any idea on how we can rectify this?
I understand that its the internet and I should be more lenient towards little things like this, but when I see people just blatantly ignore what I post I get irritated. I attribute this type of non-reading behavior to the fact that English is not the first language of many, also the fact that average age here is pretty low, so its all somewhat excusable. BUT the way I see it, I read through a lot of Korean and Japanese sites all with the help of Google translate, it cant be that hard for others to exert the same amount of effort I do.
Is there anything else about you that you would like to add?
More people need to come out to local meetups, and when you do, don’t be shy.
Can you take me up in the plane if I come visit you? Soshified Spotlight Solicitation announcement.
