9-member Korean girl group SNSD released their 2nd single “Gee” and sold 66,000 copies within the first week. They entered the 11/1 weekly single ranking at #2. A British female group called “Nolans” released a song called “Dancing Sisters” and entered ORICON at #2 for the 12/1 weekly chart of 1980. SNSD is the 2nd female group to accomplish this, it has been 30 years. Aside from Japan, they are the first ever Asian girl group to enter at this rank.
The single “Gee” is the Japanese version of their Korean big hit from January 2009 that also set records. In September, SNSD’s Japanese debut single “GENIE” (First week sales – 45,000/Total sales 97,000) helped them achieve the record of being the first foreign female artist to rank that high (rank #4) for a debut single. “Gee” has already started by exceeding the rank and sales of their debut single “GENIE” and both singles sales are expected to increase.
