About Me
To: Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun (aka Girl’s Generation!!!!!)
Ahn-nyung-ha-se-yo!!!! (I think that is how you say hello in Korean)
That is about the extent of my Korean (besides phrases such as “aigoo” and “kamsahamnida”). I just wanted to write you ladies and let you know that I am a huge fan of yours. And the more I’ve Youtubed and Googled you all (that’s all I can do because I live in UT and don’t speak Korean. Mianhe.) This fan letter is gonna seem long winded, so please bear with me. I am writing to mainly say thank you. From you, The SNSD members, I have learned a lot about the Korean culture.
The main thing I’ve learned is that you are all hard working women who have sacrificed a lot and have given up so much to get to where you are. I found out about you guys because of We Got Married. Short version on how that happened is I watch Korean dramas, and I just finished Heart Strings (with your brother in law, Jung Yong Hwa) and I saw that he did We Got Married, and his wife just so happened to be your maknae, Seohyun. Because I’m nosy, I had to do my research on her because I wanted to see who was trying to claim Yongwha as their husband. And after watching WGM and doing my research, I found that Seohyun was not only the perfect girl for him, but that Girl’s Generation as a whole was quite impressive.
After finishing WGM, I along with the rest of the WGM viewers, felt that YongSeo would marry and live together and that would be the fairytale ending that we all wanted. But then on Big Brothers, SNSD said, “it’s not the time for us to be dating.” And Tiffany further explains that “we’ve wanted to become successful singers for such a long time, so we are willing to wait on dating”. The American in me just couldn’t understand. I was like “you can date and sing and still be good”. But the more I researched you all, the more I started to understand.
In America, people are being picked up off the streets and getting record deals like its nothing. They can be average Joe’s on Monday, and then a World Wide phenomenon on Friday. But I have learned that in Korea, and probably other Asian countries, it takes years before you can make it. I know this may sound scary, but I’ve Googled all of you, and I am amazed. Taeyeon has been training all her life but was barely found by SME in 2004, and then trained for another 3-4 years before Girl’s Generation was born, Jessica trained for 7 years, Sunny 5 yrs., Tiffany 3 ½ yrs., Hyoyeon 11 yrs., Yuri 6 yrs., Sooyoung 11 yrs., Yoona 7 yrs., and Seohyun about 7-8 yrs.
The reason I emphasis on how long you trained is because if you take those training years, and subtract it from your ages now, you all started very, very young. You all have sacrificed a lot to get to where you are. You exemplified “sacrifice” when I saw your appearance on KJE’s Chocolate (the Mom special). I cried so hard. To see how much pain you ladies went through just by hearing the word MOM made me realize that you had sacrificed so much. It not only showed your dedication, but it showed me that you are deserving of the success you have received thus far. So when Tiffany says “we’ve all wanted to become successful singers for such a long time” she isn’t saying that lightly. You young ladies have showed that through hard work, diligence, sacrifice and dedication, you have gotten to where you are now. I think the same can be said for a lot of your colleagues as well.
I have noticed that we in America are pampered. This is what I mean by I have learned a lot about Korea through you ladies. I will always in my heart think that YongSeo will grow old together and laugh about their time on WGM, but I understand that you have come too far to let something as trivial as a boy ruin all your hard work and success. I’m sorry I went on a rant, but this is how I honestly feel. I have watched a lot of your YouTube videos, and you ladies are true professionals. I love all your songs (Gee, Oh!, Tell Me Your Wish, Run Devil Run, etc…). I hope that in your career, I will be able to go to one of your concerts. Because of you ladies (as well as other artist such as CN Blue, 2PM, f(x), SHINee, etc…..), K-POP is a force to be reckoned with. “The Boys” is proof that you ladies are not to be taken lightly. Wish you all the best in years to come. May you continue to be the humble, sexy, talented singers and dancers that is So Hyuh Shi Dae. LONG LIVE GIRLS GENERATION!!!! FIGHTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
