[11.11.11 - 11.12.11] Sydney K-pop Fest Fan Account

12 November 2011 - 10:01 PM

The Sydney K-Pop Music Fest – A Sunshiner’s Lessons account

Sunny is my bias. Hopefully the lessons I’ve learned can help future Sunshiners.

Friday 11th November, 2011
I flew in interstate, and arrived at 7:20am. Fortunately for my two friends and I, all the idols except SECRET and SNSD came in at around 8. Security was tight, and there should be fancams aplenty. Since it’s a Sunshiner’s account, and Sunny isn’t here yet (> :), we’ll skip to the next day.

Lesson 1: Figure out in advance what time they’re coming, K-Sones should always have a schedule of them going into airports.

Saturday 12th November, 2011
7:30am. Airport.
Got up bright and early, wanted to get a good spot to spot them at the airport. Took around 45 minutes to travel by train from where I was, and got there at around 7:30am. Don’t remember what time they came out, but when they did, pandemonium reigned. You cannot imagine what it is like to finally see them for the first time, maybe 1-2m away from you. I didn’t have my phone out to record, since I thought the police would go in to escort them out first like yesterday. I was saving battery (Was going straight to line up for VIP Standing at the concert later, so needed to save my battery), so I didn’t get ready in time when they ‘unexpectedly’ came out.
Jessica came first, and right behind her was Sunny.
My brain had a fart, and I was just staring at her with my mouth open. It was very surreal; and she waved in our direction, but I didn’t have a phone out. The guy next to me was claiming it for himself, and if he uploads his fancam I will die of happiness. (Was wearing a 515 SPAO cap, so I’d rather much claim it for myself. (A)) By the time I regained my senses, I realised I just missed the rest of them. I could only recall seeing Jessica, Sunny and HyoYeon. The rest passed in a blur as I was so fixated on Sunny.

Lesson 2: If the guy next to you is a Sone, I find they are pretty happy to ‘share the love’, so to speak. Ask them for their emails, so they can get you the fancam. That way, you can enjoy SNSD in all their glory, without needing to hassle for a camera. I didn’t, so I’ll have to settle with this picture showing her wave in my direction! >:
Lesson 3: There are 9 of them, get ready to be awestruck 9 times. I was slightly mortified later when I got home that I could only recall 3 out of the 9. The other 6 I just ‘glossed over’.

They got unto the bus, and I assumed they were leaving immediately. So I left the airport, to get in line for good standing spots for the concert later. But they didn’t, they were staying for SECRET who were arriving later. This is when Taeyeon started giving out heart shapes on the bus. I’m sure you can find pictures everywhere. Lining up for the standing area of the concert, here are several lessons:

Lesson 4: ALWAYS bring an umbrella and sun screen.
Lesson 5: ALWAYS have friends. If you don’t have friends, make friends. SONEs are generally REALLY friendly, as people are when you share the same passion as them.
Lesson 6: You can use this time to prepare your ‘gear’ for the concert. Or to study if you have an exam in 2 days. Just be ready for lots and lots of waiting.

7:30pm. Concert.
I was slightly sad that I was on the ‘wrong’ side of the stage. From previous performances, I knew Sunny would be on the right side, but I was allocated the other gate. This made me very sad, as I knew I wouldn’t have had much opportunity to see/wave at her. (On a side note, my side was the one without the MC stage too, so I missed all the YulTi action. Had to watch it on the big screen > :) At least I was 2 rows behind the front. (I.e. 2 people in front of me, then the rail. Lucky they were short too!)

Lesson 7: Look at their performances, and find your bias’s position. Try to get into a good spot relative to that position. Understand how the stadium works first.

The performances before SNSD were all pretty good, and I’ll probably write up a review of all of them before I forget sometime later. But for now, since this is a Sunshiner’s account, lets jump to SNSD!
When The Boys came on, everyone went crazy. Since it was a 12 idol group concert, all the pushing and heaving started, and people fell pretty quickly. But this isn’t about concert etiquette, which probably warrants a whole section on its own, so I won’t harp on about it.
I couldn’t get a proper fancam with all the pushing and shoving, so I decided to just enjoy the performance. Watching Sunny 10m dancing to The Boys is simply magic. Especially when the beat broke down during the bridge, (I WANNA DANCE RIGHT NOW!) when HyoYeon leads the dance, watch Sunny. For some reason, it was just too amazing. To watch her (Fly High, High!) was mesmerizing. I’m pretty happy I didn’t take a fancam, cause I knew there would be many available anyway.
But through all that I realised I didn’t catch the performance, again. =.=’’ Only noticed Sunny. Again. Not that I’m complaining, just mentioning it in case some of you decide to kick yourself later when you realise you had the chance to watch all of them as a whole, but you were just watching your bias.
They jumped straight into Kissing You, and started throwing flowers out. I had Jessica and SooYoung on my side, but everyone was so mental I couldn’t take a decent picture/fancam. I just started laughing cause it was so crazy, Australians need a lesson in concert etiquette. I enjoyed it though.

They jumped straight into Gee next on the extended platform, and since I was right in front I could only see their backs. So I just watched the performance on the big screens and… yeah.
That’s the extent of my ‘interaction’ with Sunny, as I couldn’t make it to the airport the next day. Pretty sad IMO, only a wave that I did not cam. >:
I will return to probably edit this later, hit me back with any questions that you might have.

P.S. EVERYONE SHOULD GIVE PUBSQUASH A PRIZE. If you don’t appreciate what she’s done, you’re hating soshified and SNSD fandom in general. Thank you Vi!
