One wistful utt'rance would betray

Once more we wait to whisper
Unto those ears of whom we love
Naught that we could ever tell
"Go on dreaming with me forever"
Abandon. Abandon.

Wow, this was really bizarre for me to read... some of those, it's like she's some kind of mentor to the younger folks, what with all the school-related things and all, and then even the... questions about, uh, mundane matters. I guess that's just something about Korean folk and celebrity, but man it's weird to me. And yeah, thanks Soshified for everything, making all this stuff available and understandable. And everything else.

This has always been my favorite song of theirs, and before I'd stumbled across this translation (via the IceTeaRs video), I used to hope and hope the lyrics weren't, ah, better off forgotten. I remember feeling a twang of disappointment at the opening verse (especially at "With your patient faith and gentle heart Please forgive his mistakes"), but that died away when the second verse turns to a male audience. In the end, though, I was left with the impression that I liked the song better just listening to it and not really thinking about the lyrics. To be honest, I get all sour when i try to sort out the lyrics. I still have issues with "Tell her first, your confession of love," but those are probably just personal and not necessarily a fault of the songwriting. The words tend to invite the criticism that it is just naivete, affected simplicity, but credit to the lyricist, this Young H. Kim, that the song never quite goes that far in that direction that the song can be dismissed as such. But the song, the words, yes, have a simplicity to them, but it is such that has the power of honesty rather than a lack of complication. You sorta can't attack the lyrics without dismissing the notion of romantic love, and again, it's a credit to the lyricist that this song has such a hopeful innocence without being immature. And it suits the composition, rather the lyrics and the score go entirely well together.
But really, I'm still torn over the lyrics, in a personal way, because they sorta make me feel bad about my life. And, like every time they say "believe," it just makes me feel bad for feeling bad about things, and then I'm like "believe in what" and I don't really have an answer for that (pertaining to the subject matter). And every now and then I catch wind of the notion that I'm just a guy belaboring every little thing in a world that's happier not caring so deeply about things, so what am I getting worked about? But it's not as satisfying coming to that conclusion on your own. Story of my life, I guess.
So yeah, I enjoy better to simply listen to the song and feel what it makes me feel, and I try to treat the lyrics in general as a sort of guide to what they want you to think about, to the subject in general, and then I try to forget the specific things they say. I mean, really, Girls' Generation, especially Gee-era Girls' Generation, saying things like "If you just believe" and "in the name of love," especially the way they sing it here, not many things approach that experience.
Anyway, thanks again Soshified people.

In Topic: Happy Third Anniversary To Girls' Generation/소녀시대

Hey, my favorite song of theirs in the video.
As a matter of coincidence, it turns out their Third Anniversary coincides with my third month as a fan. Anyway, on such success as has been achieved, may a brighter future be built, and may further joys be theirs both personal and professional. One hopes they enjoy whatever they do to mark the occasion, but even more so that they continue to build upon and grow from each other and continue with the camaraderie more often called the Soshi bond - such as moves the fan to believe in the beauty of the world. And as for the fan, may their spirit of support continue to sustain the Girls' spirits, that the mutual warmth might enrich the lives of all concerned.
And hooray for three years at the top of Asian entertainment.
