Mistake the K-pop Country song ??

I was raised a Country Boy growing up .... Garth Brooks / Dwight Youkum / Dixie Chicks if it had twang i listened to it ... and when i was old enough to understand lyric and songwriting of a song I fell in love with the heartbreak songs

Then well my own personal heartbreaks happened ... i lived the heartbreak songs

But of course Country turned pop and much more family friendly and the heartbreak song all but died out ....

So what does this have to do with SNSD and Mistake ..... It's what i want Country music to be again

Let me explain

For you older sones who dealt with a broken heart , Did you ever wanna just sit and feel sorry for yourself ?? Wonder why you made a Mistake of putting your heart out there just to have it stomped on ?? Then to turn on the radio to hear crappy love songs or dance songs ??

Mistake to me is that missing country song i need in those times ... it just so happens to be sung in Korean by a k-pop group ... WTF??

How Do i even Review a song that in it's Songwriting is very sad, depressing and maybe even dark ... there isn't a happy ending to the song ... and for such a happy upbeat girl ( Yuri ) to even write a song like this blows my mind

So to me it's about loving someone who doesn't love you back if you look at the last part of the song

I knew I couldn’t have you but my love for you just kept growing
It’s my mistake for waiting by myself, regretting by myself, loving you by myself

Even though my heart was aching, it’s my mistake for not letting you go (I’m such a fool)
I knew I would get hurt and couldn’t let go (It’s my mistake)
Even though it's all my fault
Even though it's all my fault
That’s ok. As long as you’re there (Always…)

Please forgive me for being like this
(forgive the person) Who loved you

And It's Amazing how a group of young happy girls who mostly sing about first love , togetherness ,cute fun dance songs ... Tackled something so sad and serious with such grace , beauty and maturity beyond their years

The vocals from every single member is perfect ... they delivered the emotion needed to sell the heartache in the song ... the best song vocally from the members as a group

This is the SNSD i fell in love with ... This is ( well not my favorite SNSD song ) SNSD at their very best ... This Is the best SNSD song ( of course in my opinion )

10/10

Country? Not sure of that, the rhythm and everything makes me think more of an R&B song. In fact, the tune alone reminds me of either Mariah Carey' "Hero" or Utada Hikaru's "First Love". Other than that, I agree...kinda sparks some nostalgic feelings if you're no longer in that heartbreak, too.

I should have explained that the songwriting reminds me of a country song ... not the beat/style/rhythm

Oh! Then, yeah. I agree. "First Love" has similair idea in it's lyrics, too, though. Heartbreak is a pretty universal theme, IMO. Even Slipknot had a song about heartbreak...kinda...in Slipknot's style. lol "Vermillion". My favorite NIN song is one, too...though, it's not the same feeling as I think you mean with country songs. NIN's song("Only") is more about denial of what that person meant to you so I don't think that's what you meant. >.<

^ I love me a good Heartbreak song ... but the reason i love country even rock over metal is ( maybe the stupidest reason ever ) ... i don't like the screaming ... it's turns me off of what could be some great lyrics/songwriting ... went any metal/hard rock band starts screaming instead of singing ... i tune them out

Huh, Mistake never struck me as a country song at all, just your run-of-the-mill ballad haha, but yeah maybe the lyrics do have some connection to it... I do love the song though, especially since it was written by my fav member Yuri :D so I'll give it a 7.5/10 for me.

Now this an asian country song imo..just so damn ridiculously country it's like a parody XD

Mistake is that one sad song that I really go back to. I don't know, for some reason it really has that appeal to me. I was totally blown away when this first came out and I really couldn't believe it at first as well that Yuri wrote the lyrics for this one. It's such a beautiful song and it really hit me home just perfectly.

You want to have that one song that really reflects you being hurt and being a fool in love, this is it.

Although I don't listen to country music, I am quite aware from watching certain comedians stand-up acts' commenting that that type of music was always about heartbreak.

When I first listened to Mistake, I never considered its lyrics as country even when listening to it repeatedly afterwards.

I just considered it a beautiful R&B song ~ because it had an R&B blanket.

I am unaware how a song is created and I am not claiming to know its process.

But maybe by listening to the sample or full music first from the producers, with the probable inclusion of being provided a lyrical guideline by them as well, she probably was asked the lyrics must have heartbreak emotions.

Also, she could also have been inspired by forms of media she had either watched or read in the past and some of those may have influenced her.

And, maybe she experienced heartbreak herself and that could also be one of the partial reasons too.  <~ This is just  my speculation.

I don't think it's country. It's more like ballad. Country has a very different feels from Mistake; definitely. I'm also a fan of country music.

And well.. Yuri went through heartbreaks too you know. Idols life is not perfect.

I'm just speaking bluntly here haha sorry

^ This. I love the R&B vibe it has (silky smooth). It's one of my favorite non-single songs from SNSD.

As somebody who listens to country occasionally, I've deduced that country really sounds like

In all honesty, the vibe struck me as more R&B, than country, if anything else, like the above mentioned.

Country, really, is more

@ Dave maybe your right ... maybe it's been my need as a country fan who is feed up with the taylor swift country that is overtaking the air waves ... that when i heard Mistake .. it took me back to when i thought country was the strongest the 10 or so years between 88 - 98 ish when people like Lorrie Morgan , Garth Brooks , Alan Jackson and so on was on the radio ... Mistake was that powerful of a song lyrics wise that i could see Patty Loveless or Martina Mcbride doing the English version of mistake

Like everyone has already said here, "Mistake" struck me more with a pop/R&B vibe than anything else. Taylor Swift is definitely country pop more than anything else, though... kind of like Shania Twain, but even more pop-sounding. It's different because Taylor Swift used to have that authentic country sound when she first started back in 2005/2006--or at least, as close as she could get--but started going down the country pop road by around 2011/2012, while Shania Twain was always pretty country pop, with a slight hint of rock.

But I can see why you would think country hit its prime back in the 80s and 90s, because it kind of did, but I definitely think country was at its best during the 60s and 70s when it first started emerging onto the scene. I think country started to change as a whole during the 80s and 90s as pop started getting more and more mainstream success, so country artists probably figured they would do a lot better if they had a bit more of a pop or rock sound. There's still some good country artists left, but a majority of them are definitely country pop more than anything.

I'm not really a country listener and it's actually probably one of my least favorite genres (next to metal), but from what I can tell, 2013 was also a pretty terrible year for country... I hope 2014 will bring better music for all genres, but I honestly doubt country will get anywhere near to what it used to be.

This song, for me, somehow stimulates my mind to picture myself in a sad mood. It's like how I should reflect on my mistakes.

Imagine sitting on a long bus trip alone, raining outside and listening to this song. I already did it, describe the feeling for me.

About whether it's country or not, is it really country to me?

Well As i stated before to me the lyrics i feel can be a country song the could be sung but any of the great Ladies of Country ... it may be one of the best written song i ever heard ( of course it's my opinion only ) ..... I feel the this song goes beyond K-pop and can be powerful ... you don't have to be a K-pop fan or even a SNSD fan to feel the power of the song

With most other SNSD songs .... Only SNSD can preform them ( Gee and OH! for example are badly written songs that SNSD make so much better ... if Spice Girls did Gee it won't totally suck , If 2ne1 did Oh! same thing it's a song made for SNSD and Sones only ... won't work for any one else )

But i won't have any issues if Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood did a English Version of Mistake ... It's A Song that should be heard by as many people as can ... IDK where Yuri got it from ( seem like a very personal song ... like it happened to her or some one she knew/knows ) ... but It reminds me of the great 90's Country Power Ballads ... which is never a bad thing

Aww... You're missing out on Skid Row's "18 and Life", then. There's a good tune. :P

I still don't think this song sounds country-like, IMO. Country doesn't hold any exclusivity over "Heartbreak" tunes and many R&B tunes are such. Warrant's "I Saw Red" comes to mind when rock is considered:

^ I know Country doesn't own the heartbreak song ... but it was part of my culture well i was growing up ... its what i know

I really didn't get into other music till i was 14 or so i didn't grow up on hair metal , rap/r&b and so on ...and even then it took me a while to understand the culture of other types of music that wasn't country
