based from my exp. i actually memorize the whole chart of hiragana and katakana but then when it comes to reading sometimes i forgot how should i read it.. i get used to memorize the chart when i'm memorizing and reading vocabulary words .. sometimes katakana is kinda confusing @_@ xD .. did you just study by yourself? or you enrolled in a school?
