when you post on topics or comment on articles, there is a little green + button on the right hand corner on the bottom end of your post. if someone else likes your post, they might hit that little green + sign, which would give you a +1 reputation for every time someone does so.
you are not able to press the + for your own post, only others can do that and vice versa :)
