    Being a kpop fan  ??-__-

First of all, why do some people have issues with a ‘kpop fan’? By the way, kpop is korean pop music and yes, you’ve got it right. It is sang entirely in Korean with bits of English here and there but anyway, it’s pop music sang by Koreans. What’s the difference between American pop and Korean pop? In my opinion, I would say substance they deliver to audience. When I see American pop music, it’s always about drugs, money, bros, hoes and many other words. Although I don’t understand entirely of what singers sing in kpop, I look up the lyrics. For most of the time, the songs are about unrequited love, break ups, dreams and etc. There are songs about money and etc. But they are not as bad-ass as American pop.I’m not saying American pop music is bad, it’s great! It’s just that I find kpop more appealing to me. I love Beyonce and MJ.

Also, the kpop MVs are more innocent. In a country where the media is heavily censored, that is they’ll even ‘mosaic’ the legs if the actress is wearing short dress, and I was brought up in that country. So, it’s hard for me to watch and enjoy American pop.

Anyway, I shall stop my analysis explanation here and get to the point. Why do some people have serious problems with other people enjoying kpop music? Isn’t music a global language? You can deliver happiness, tears, joys and sadness through music and why are some people having problem with that? Despite the fact that there is a language barrier, can you not learn the language if you’re intrigued enough? I learned English because I want to listen to/watch/read substances published in English so can’t other people do the same? It’s just two different systems of media and each is good in its own way. Some people call kpop idol boys as gays and girls as plastics, then, is Justin Bieber gay and Lady Gaga transvestite? NO! They are expressing the personalities they want to show on stage. The sides they are happy about and want other people to see. It annoys me to no end when people go ‘oh, these guys are gay’. Stop dragging gay people in! It’s just a stage persona. Gay is just a life some people choose to live and it’s none of our concerns unless they stab us. Leave gay people alone!

Just because I gush over kpop idol guys does not mean I like every single Korean men out there and will marry one just because they are Korean. What the hell is that? Someone told me that the other day and I swear I wanted to kill that person. I admit I love their culture because it’s so cute and polite about how they address each other and how they are around elderly people. And the fact that they are very religious. Oh the food also! This doesn’t mean I’ll only be dating Korean guys. When I gush over kpop idol guys, I gush over their stage persona and not the actual person outside because I don’t know the person outside, the only things I know about him are from the tv screen. There’s a difference between stage persona and the person behind it. You never know what happens in this media business, they might be acting out their persona so that they get more fans/to be more successful but we cannot blame them for that because we choose to like them for what happen on stage/tv screen and not the actual person. Am I making sense here? And by the way, I love Korean food. It’s so delicious. Delish~ yums!

To sum it up, I don’t want other people commenting on me because I like kpop. It’s my concern of what genre of music I listen to and as long as I don’t blare the music at full blast in front of other people, no one can tell me to stop listening. It’s my choice, my decision and my life. Supporting kpop and getting addicted to it is much better than getting addicted to drugs. I find that after I started listening to kpop, I become more cheerful and considerate. So, thumbs up! And I need to support my fellow Asians who are doing quite well in International music awards!
