Mostly SNSD Based

(Just a reminder, this is all my opinion, comment yours if you agree/disagree, no judging ^^)

Released on June 2012, this documentary followed the artists under SM Entertainment including our babies, Girls' Generation, as they become the first Korean artists to perform at Madison Square Garden in New York. It wasn't only to give us a taste of their concert performances but some behind the scenes of all the artists lives, even pre debut footage as well.

For all of the SM Town lovers this was big news. Watching all your favorite SM artists perform and talk about personal things in their life, it's like a stalkers K-pop fans dream. Now I expected it to be glorious with unseen backstage and pre-debut footage but that wasn't really the case. I was actually very disappointed because most of the stuff I have already seen and if there was a clip I didn't see they would cut it very short. The interviews, I thought, were really short and fans weren't able to see/hear ALL their favorite idols and what they had to say.

I'm not saying there weren't ANY good footage at all: For us Sones we got to see our girls meet BoA as a group and Tiffany be a little fangirl, Taeyeon and her cute mess-up when she was singing, their practice video for the David Letterman show performance (sadly ended after 5 seconds -_-), Yuri's adorable audition dance and Hyoyeons crazy audition (my favorites), lots and lots of shuffling, etc. I thought it was kind of cool to show these clips to the them now and get their reaction (anyone else thought it was hilarious how Hyoyeon was like "I was the -ish then!") lol

Aside from those footages, I did like Taeyeon saying how all she wanted to do was sing and didn't seem to want to do anything else (my summary, not exactly what she said lol). I wish I could've heard more about this, I wish could've heard more about Tiffany and coming to Korea as a foreigner, I wish I could've heard more about all the training our girls went through. Even the other artists, there was so little to really come by - Super Juniors own struggle with the members leaving, TVXQ members and that huge fiasco with the company, etc.

It's no surprise though, it's an SMe Documentary. Of course they're not going to have them talk about their struggles and hardships, of course they're not going to talk about the crazy fans and such. It seems the filmaker(s) weren't even focused on the artists themselves. They pretty much just gave us eye candy, performances we've seen 50 million times, the good times, and their success. I mean we already knew this, right?! Even the ending with everyone hugging LSM himself, was it just me or was that suppose to say something to us specially o_o ...

Maybe I expected too much, I thought in this documentary we were going to learn more about the SM artists but we pretty much just learned a tad bit more of what they already talk about and what we already know, rather than the stuff we (deep down inside) really wanted to know.

But hey, if you already expected that much and don't mind some eye candy (the girls in their interviews were GORGEOUS btw) then it's a great movie for you. I'm not gonna lie, as disappointed as I was, as an international kpop fan it was quite satisfying when it came to eye candy and some fangirling.

Do I recommend you to buy this? No.
Do I recommend you watch it? Of course, it's on Netflix!
What do I rate it? 4/10 =(

Oh, thanks for your review! I myself haven't actually seen it but based on your impressions it seems I'm not missing much haha. Yeah I kinda figured SM wouldn't focus on the hardtimes like the lawsuits and whatnot since they are still selling this to their fans, most of which like to see their faves succeed. Nevertheless, it still was rather nice of SM to make this as a sort of gift to the fans and I really should be watching it soon xD.

I don't think it's that bad ... but i never learned anything about the artist featured on the DVD ... when i watch a documentary i wanna learn about the artist or SM as a company ... and somehow i learned nothing about anything ....

it was kinda pointless to make .... when they just could have featured the concert with behind the scenes footage and it would have been better

I would have love to see it in the style of the nine muses BBC documentary ... where it showed the good and the bad of being a k-pop star

instead we got a 2 hour SM love fest , no conflict , nothing to really make you care unless your already a fan of any of the artists in I AM

Instead watch Girls Go to School ( SNSD ) , The nine muses Documentary , The MTV series ( SNSD ) or others if your want the complete look at k-pop

6/10

That's pretty much everything I said, I was just more disappointed about not learning anything rather than being satisfied with the fangirling parts, thus a much lower rating for me.

And now that I think about it almost every other show/documentary (especially now-a-days) is better than anything SMe has ever really done, they seriously try to hide too much. I don't care much for Nine Muses but I have no doubt it was probably better than this movie. Now Girls Go To School was special because we knew almost nothing about the girls until that show so I guess you could say it began everything.

What I wish to see more from SM shows is the recording/singing process. We rarely EVER see what goes on in the studio. That's one of the reasons I loved watching YG's doc's for their artists, watching them record and mix and all that, it's fun watching.

Anyways, yeah =) lalala~

Seriously, I don't think it's that bad. Actually I didn't even buy the DVD. I got it from a friend of my father who's the CEO of SK Telecom for free and I watched it on the Cinema. I don't know why it's not appealing to you but i enjoy it a lot. We got to see different side of them and their practicing clip. and if you're still disappointed, who knows maybe there'll be a better part 2?

It's not bad per say ... it feels incomplete if compared to other k-pop Documentaries ... It's didn't show SM as a whole ( The Good & The Bad ) ...  I'm not sure about the other groups but there are better shows/movies the show a whole picture of SNSD ( GGTS , The MTV Series , even The 2 We got married seasons showed a more complete picture of SNSD )

I'm from Malaysia and the movie came out on pay per view channel and that is like the first movie that I bought to watch and I still not regret it. I told my parents that I bought the movie by accident in order to not get scolded even though I'm totally not.

I was planning on buying it since its no longer on netflix, but from the looks of it I'll probably pass, I might end up getting it just for the concert in the end though
