Paper is pretty strong when in tension, if you had two or 3 sheets laid on top of each other and fixed at either side it would hold pretty well.
Do you have a "budget" for the project ? Prize for the most cost-effective design ?

The only way I think that this can work is to put most of the members in tension... somehow hahaha Why would they give us paper... sigh its the worst material ever >__>

Haha I doubt you'd be able to do it with paper. Ours was made with Balsa Wood. It shouldn't tear in compression :S you'd need two Moments that are opposite in direction near a single node. Thankfully you'll never have to work with paper in the industry, unless you're like the worst engineer ever lol.

Wow 85kg, so basically you could stand on it? O__O holy moly hahaha. Hmmm I think the main problem with paper is that it buckles under loads... I have no idea how we're gonna fix that. It's also weak in compression because it'll just tear >__>

Haha good luck with that :P ours looked like **** but it held about 85kg ( we used a static weight on it, no movement). The trick is in the triangles, obviously you'll know that they're far stronger than squares, but if you make the triangles as small as possible, their tensile strength increases exponentially, so recommend that to your classmates :)
Let me know how it goes !

Haha nah there's no way they can do that. There's a reason why there's so many bridges like that, because it works ! They wouldn't want you to experiment with a design you're not familiar with :P

We'll probably combine truss and arch... like the harbour bridge. I'm scared they gonna take marks off for originality since we just using the same design as the harbour bridge... hahaha

We did something similar in first year.
Design either a Warren Truss or a Pratt Truss, easily the most efficient design.

I have to build a builds across a 800mm span i think.. made of paper string and cardboard and has to support a 5kg moving Tonka truck... and it has to weigh less than 450grams. a 10 storey carpark... lol i wouldnt want to do that sounds so dull haha

Nice one ! What's your project about ?
I'm doing one just now where we need to design a 10 story concrete car park, pretty dull lol.
