Haha, I'd never use my fingers! I use paintbrushes for that, but since I was in the middle of class, that would be weird if I suddenly pulled out a brush.
It came from the right side, though just faintly. The scanner's quality doesn't help too....

I never really like shading actually.
Smudging helps to even out the shading tho, use cotton buds since it gives better effects than using your fingers.
I can't seem to make out where your lightings come from... It's better to have a source, then the shading will be easier ^^

So here was the drawing I was talking about the other time; the one I was drawing in class. Tell me any way I can improve? Trying to attempt semi-realism and I'm sorta working on my shading. :\
