Hello, and welcome to the very first installment of “Soshi on the Silver Screen”! For this new monthly feature, MoonSoshi9 and moonrise31 will watch and discuss the first episode of a show featuring our favorite girls. After all, what better way to get to know their amazing personalities than to watch the countless shows they’ve been a part of? No worries, we’ve embedded videos throughout the column and provided links at the end so you can join in on our general spazzing — highlighted through the italicized sections from our chat session — and reminiscing of good times caught on camera. For later releases, we’ll watch whatever you all vote for in the poll below, but to start it off we’ve decided to go with the first episode of “Girls Go To School”: a must-see for all SONEs. So whether you’re new to the fandom or ready to take a trip down memory lane, join us as we go to school with Girls’ Generation!
moonrise31: this was like the only exposure I ever got to super junior hahaha
MoonSoshi9: They were pretty funny at the door. so shy, but then, who wouldn’t be around snsd
moonrise31: ahhh oh my gosh seohyun
MoonSoshi9: casual snsd!
moonrise31: dude, seohyun is eating the hamburger
The episode opens with the girls working hard in what has now become the nostalgic SM practice room. Taeyeon and Sooyoung enter with paper bags of fast food, and the rest rush toward them, healthy maknae Seohyun even taking a bite out of Taeyeon’s hamburger. Soon afterward, their manager sits them down and announces that they will all be moving into a dormitory together. Most of the girls sit silent and still, realizing that they are one big step closer to their dream, but are also leaving their families behind. Their lives will never again be the same, although it’s unclear whether this new path will be for the better.
moonrise31: tiffany’s like the only excited one. she’s already so far away from home, I guess
MoonSoshi9: Yeah now she gets 8 sisters. It would be really cool for her. It would be hard for her too, being away from family
moonrise31: I know, right D:
MoonSoshi9: Haha they are getting used to their managers, like they can’t even believe they are about to be singers. So cute.
moonrise31: they’re dealing with the news differently too hahaha “let’s eat!” “let’s shop!” “I’m gonna practice.”
MoonSoshi9: “I can do it!”
moonrise31: You did do ittttt
MoonSoshi9: Taeyeon on the bridge by herself is such an amazing moment. They had a huge dream and believed in themselves.
moonrise31: iconic soshi moment, for sure
Worries are momentarily pushed to the side as the excitement of the new dorm settles in. The girls discover that the place has been decorated ahead of time, with pink and white balloons covering the walls and even hanging from the ceiling. They dash from one room to the other: this one is Sunny and Yuri’s, that one’s Tiffany and Seohyun’s. Jessica and Hyoyeon are roommates and Taeyeon, Sooyoung, and Yoona get the biggest bedroom. The manager tells them that they can have a party, so they immediately rush to get ready, whether it’s unpacking belongings or buying food for the festivities later that night.
MoonSoshi9: Yuri in the closet, what a dork haha. And Tiffany: “the pink one is mine” but of course, of course.
moonrise31: haha yeah no question
MoonSoshi9: that has never changed, even back then Tiffany was obsessed with pink
moonrise31: lucky for her that’s soshi’s color hahaha
MoonSoshi9: Aww Yoona Taeyeon and Sooyoung taking a selca. it must be a great memory for them, the day they moved into their dorm
MoonSoshi9: shopping carts are so full of food hahaha
moonrise31: that also has never changed hehe
MoonSoshi9: Can you imagine how rowdy it was with all 9 of them together in that dorm? omg haha
moonrise31: I don’t see why they were so excited about the party. it must be a party everyday XD
although, this day is different from all the others.
Girls’ Generation’s seniors and proud oppas, Leeteuk and Shindong from Super Junior, arrive at the girls’ new home for their surprise party. The boys can hardly contain their excitement as they get ready to celebrate a momentous occasion in their juniors’ lives and careers. Leeteuk and Shindong share advice for the soon-to-debut girls and show the family-like atmosphere that years of training together at SM has built.
MoonSoshi9: Shindong so nice setting up the balloons for them. Good oppa lol
moonrise31: I’ve never seen such a large birthday candle flame hahah
MoonSoshi9: I wonder what the girls wished for when they blew the candles out. They must have been very hopeful for the future at that time. It’s like the official beginning of SNSD, before the debut even, moving in and becoming a team.
moonrise31: I’m so glad we can share this moment with them
MoonSoshi9: Shindong: “These are special girls”
You got that right buddy
moonrise31: hahahahah agreed.
Of course, the girls are hopeful for their future as they move in together, but you can’t keep the “girl” out of Girls’ Generation. Yoona’s self-camera reveals the girls’ hilarious antics, but at the same time we get to see that even though they will soon debut, they are still normal girls with responsibilities, like Sunny heading off to school in the morning.
MoonSoshi9: Seohyun and Keroro I SHIP
moonrise31: OTP
MoonSoshi9: Hahahah the Sexy Boy bit, was so ridiculous
OMG Tiffany in glasses in the morning, she’s so cute
ALL the girls back then looked fresh. Like they just had this bright image and were pretty without a lot of makeup
moonrise31: and the makeup they use now makes them look…hm…more mature? Like a mature pretty instead of this freshness
MoonSoshi9: Imagine being a Soshi manager. You would probably get less sleep than Soshi themselves lol
moonrise31: oh goodness. good thing manager hwang is there too hahahaha
MoonSoshi9: Hahahah yes
Aww it’s over already!?
moonrise31: can we watch…another one hahahaha
“Girls Go To School” is perhaps the most important TV show the girls have been a part of. It chronicles so many huge moments in their lives as they prepare for the debut, as well as their debut itself. Through the show, they give us a glimpse into their lives, their stories, their relationship with each other, and their work. Not only as fans do we get to take that journey with them through the way the show is filmed, but “Girls Go To School” lasts as a moment of history for the girls as well. One day they can look back and see their youthful selves, bright-eyed and full of hope and excitement, and remember how before they became stars with fans all over the world, they were just nine girls moving in together, making a wish while blowing out a candle.
MoonSoshi9: So many amazing moments and the story of their debut and hardships. In fact, I can recall the moment I became a SONE was when I was watching one of the later episodes
When Jessica collapsed, it was heartbreaking T_T
moonrise31: they basically treated this as their debut stage. worked that hard for it, and they did that performance like four times? in a hot room without a/c.
MoonSoshi9: Oh yeah I see what you mean. I think that shows the kind of group they are. Even though it wasn’t their ‘official’ debut, they took it just as seriously
moonrise31: soshi doesn’t do anything halfway
MoonSoshi9: That’s one of the reasons I became a fan of them tbh. I like their music of course, but it’s them as people that I learned to admire and respect.
They are just fantastic all around as people and as artists.
moonrise31: Exactly. for me, their music is good, but I enjoy other groups’ songs just as much. what makes me a sone and not part of another fanclub is their work ethic, their personalities…look at them goofing off and you see how they handle all the stress.
and they have each other, which is arguably the most important part. You can’t look at them and not see the soshibond. no wonder they got to the top.
It’s impossible to just watch one episode, so head over to Soshisubs or the Soshisubs classics YouTube channel and watch all the subbed episodes of “Girl Go To School”. Let us know which show you would like to see highlighted next!

What a cute sisterhood they are aaaaakkk
aww these time they were just 9 ordinary goofy kids and nw DUSH look at what they have become. WORLD SYOOPERSTAR. but being syooperstar is nt the reason why i love them. its their effort and passion to do everything.
but duh of course i falled head over heels on them because of their what-is-image-is-it-food-can-we-eat-that side. Seeing the pink oceans made by sones all over the world makes me feel like a proud mom (lol snsd is older than me)
Now excuse me i wanna go and watch the series again ㅜㅜ
I miss this dorky and carefree side of snsd.:)) Now they are more mature but there are still some times when their dorkiness comes out. :DDD Right Now, it’s Girls’ Generation. From now on, it’s Girls’ Generation. Forever, it’s Girls’ Generation. <3
nice
Bay, wla n bang iba dyan? kekeke ^^
3 years of being a sone and to be honest, this is my first time watching this [and thankfully I finally had the time to watch this :D]. After watching this, I literally want to shed tears for the girls for all their efforts, hardships and adventures all together. I’m really touched at how they treat each other. They don’t really get conscious on how they look on the cam, they’re just being their natural selves, and that added a lot to their charms :))) I wish I have a sibling [like them :”( ]. More power to SNSD!
SoShi Hwaiting!!
You guys just make me want to watch the whole series again (for the nth time). Man, I can still remember those days when they were so young and excited and so darn rowdy moving in to their first dorm together. It was so much fun. Yeah, they were totally kids back then.
I was so laughing when Shindong and Leeteuk were so shy and awkward entering the dorm. LOL. And then when I saw moonrise31’s comment on Seohyun eating a hamburger, I was like, “Whoa!!! Really??!!” and then tried to recall it. Oh yeah, now I remember. Hahahaha!!!
I wonder if SNSD themselves get to watch this show. Maybe they should watch this show all over again. It’ll be cool to see how they react now, six years later, watching themselves preparing for their big debut.
*Now runs off to watch the whole series again*
yoyoi
Their first show ever that make me watch this show even I had been watching this show many times.. Soshi always the best.. smile always.. be happy..
When I first found out about this group, the whole concept of having 9 members and k-pop itself were completely “foreign” to me, in more ways than one. Perhaps it was planned, but the day the show starts was 07/07/07. Could you pick a more lucky date? Although I think some of the drama was a bit overplayed, considering SM’s position in the industry and the fact that Mnet was making the show, it is still fascinating viewing. (Was there really any doubt they’d make it to School of Rock?) Still, when I see that tiny little girl on the bridge, a little unsure and not knowing the amazing future ahead of her, it chokes me up everytime.
For us, there was no doubt they’d make it to the School of Rock — by the time the show aired, they had passed off their checkride.
For THEM, however — and for everyone else, when this was taped — there was no certainty that this group would make it that far. How many hopefuls were followed by cameras, only to have the tapes put in storage because they weren’t ready for prime time? How many promising candidates just never make it at all?
When I was younger (and dinosaurs ruled the Earth), I was in a group myself. We made a few recordings, got some airtime on KHJ, got a WhollyOdd — Hollywood, I mean — contract, opened for a couple of groups, and . . .*POOF*! History. Like we never existed. Of the 5 of us, two went on to chart — one solo, one in a group which still tours — two went other places, and I went straight to he — er, into managing and promotion.
I’ve seen literally hundreds of talented performers “miss the trapeze” and vanish from the scene. You need more than just looks, more than just a voice, and more than just a good song, good dance and good management. Of course, you can do without the voice if you have the rest (google “Milli Vanilli”), but the important thing is to show up with the right combination at the right time.
When GGTS was taped, nobody knew if the 9 unknowns the cameras were following around were the right combination — 9? Why not 11? 8? Three separate trios? — or if they were arriving at the right time with the right song, the right dance . . .
So, NO, the drama wasn’t overplayed. When someone seems worried, they ARE worried. When the SofR writer starts with “I came expecting a lot from you guys,” the girls knew that she might continue “. . .and I’m sorry, but I just don’t see it.” They would not have been the first group to be told that they hadn’t made it, after all that hard work, and THEY KNEW IT. They knew that failing a second time would be the end — and that success only gave them another chance after that.
I can pretty much guarantee that NOBODY expected the Power of 9!
This was one of the shows that made me love the girls and my routine also changed but I always enjoyed changes in life, I not only liked them but also began to like the country as a whole too. Before I watched normal tv but it got boring and annoying (because of the excessive commercials) and instead I watched soshi shows and other korean shows..now it’s sometimes I do but been in the soshi world made me more creative and less unproductive only watching tv and stuff plus their hardwork :-) Thans ssf for the article..it will be good if it could be in order but it’s okay if the next review will be for hello baby…
This show made me love them more, I won’t mind repeating this over and over again.
I became a SONE long after this show was aired (The Boys era), but when I saw this I was left in awe.
Especially with their work ethics, their personalities and the bond that they have.
Soshibond FTW!
As I was reading this, I was remembering when I watched all the episodes. It’s amazing how the girls have grown since then. :) They had a dream and now they’re living it! <3
That show is one of my favorite. I’ll watch it again right now…
The beginning of the SoshiBond — before that, they were girls who got together to practice.
Taeyeon on the bridge . . .timeless.
It’s amazing to think that, when this was shot, NONE OF US HAD EVER HEARD OF THEM.
There were no SONEs, no hits, no vids, NOTHING. The Power of Nine had yet to be discovered.
Someone who saw them on the bridge or shopping wondered who these girls were, and why anyone would be pointing cameras at them. Even the guys with the cameras had no clue that they were recording the beginnings of a phenomenon, they thought they were shooting just another put-together group of girls who hoped to make it onto the charts once or twice. Even their managers didn’t know what they were creating by putting 9 girls in a dorm.
Kind of awe-inspiring . . .
Wow, you pretty much just blew my mind into tiny slivers ^o^.
To me the most impressive thing about SNSD, is not SNSD themselves, but just the amazing people who join their fandom. From Moonrise31 (who wrote the poem for sica’s birthday) To you oldSone. to me the best representation of their greatness, is the amazing people who choose to stand behind them^^
Their music is pretty epic as well **
~to Love, Loot, and the power of nine~
If only “Like Button” is available but there is none.. ^^
You seem to know a lot. Nobody knows the future. They are young and pretty sure they are hell scared what the future will bring. One thing that amazed me were those people who believed in them, who pushed and back them up, the people behind these whole ideas of 9 young girls, put into training for years.
I don’t know anything. I don’t read a lot. But I do watch few. Now, I hope this isn’t too much to ask, can you share something about their +-10mos break? Was it the deciding point of their career? Did the black ocean has something to do about it? I’m just curious. Actually, I don’t read really. And I call myself a SONE. Shame on me. ^^
this was the 1st Soshi-mentary i watch after watching their MVs for a full day. i never went back to my normal routine watching television and listening to English artists after that. even now after 2+ yrs, i still haven’t gone back to that old routine. i still tell new fans to watch GGTS because it’s a MUST watch and the beginning of this legendary group. kamsahamnida SSF staffs. can’t wait to see next entry.
I’d prefer to ‘watch’ this in order that it was produced in, which i assume is MTV is next?
wow great idea for new features
this one show is really unforgettable
happiness, hard works,determination,inspiration,touching moments
all fused into one, this is really great treasure for me
really big thanks to every one contributing to make this show air
this one always motivated, encouraged, cheering me up
Mantap
Aw Man…totally disappointed after reading the title. I thought there was gonna be a sequel show or something….
Ditto. I was like raving for a few seconds thinking they actually did make a season two.
““Girls Go To School”: a must-see for all SONEs.” — agree!
Frankly speaking, you can’t call yourself a SONE if you miss this show.
I like this feature much. :) Hopefully MTV Girls Generation will be next.
Funny, I was just thinking about this series this morning. It wasn’t until I saw GGTS that I really considered myself a SONE :)
I really laughing at moonrise31 response “moonrise31: dude, seohyun is eating the hamburger”. Woah… who knows Seohyun, the healthy food lover used to eat THAT kind of food too.
This is nice feature. Good job, Soshified Writers.
Soshi bond Forever!! 9 dorky angels with a bond with eachother that can never be broken!! <3
i hope ssf can reupload win win episode where the complete SoShi were the guest. i lost my original download since i lost my laptop and i can’t i find the complete version on the web due to copyright. Please SSF re-upload or give a dload link to win win.
This is one of the most memorable soshi shows for me. This is the reason why i fell deeper into this fandom. Those 9 dorky girls that never fails to amuse us with their silliness. Soshi bond is the best!
