The Japanese mobile fansite recently revealed the individual stories of each member for the music video “Time Machine”. Below are the pictures and the translated stories for each member. The lyrics for “Time Machine” can be found here.
Sitting in the back seat of a luxury car. Jessica knows the relationship is ending.
In order to fit into her boyfriend’s busy life, who focuses everything on his company, she overextends herself. Even now, only his car comes around to meet her. When that happens, it’s frustrating.
Even riding in the car, he is not next to her. She doesn’t need expensive clothes and bags anymore.
She wants to return to her real self. You can see a little hope in that sad face.
Yoona is waiting until her wedding ceremony. But, feelings of an ex-boyfriend have always been lying somewhere in her heart.
Yoona is running. It doesn’t matter what her ex-boyfriend is doing now. She runs toward him thinking if there might be a chance to go back to the old times.
Instead of the chapel rice shower, it is like the falling snow is blessing the new Yoona.
She tries to go back to him. No matter how it ends up.
Right now, the relationship with him has ended. Sunny runs out of the store as the rain’s tears fall.
There wasn’t supposed to be any regrets. When they broke up, she put on a strong facade and dressed in a black set up. It rains so it can hide her crying visage. After a long bout of crying, Sunny walks forward.
There is a slight flow of hope in her expression.
Right now Taeyeon is happy. However, inadvertently thinking of the past, she thinks of a past boyfriend. In that contented life, just thinking about it causes her chest to tighten.
It was fun when they were going out. Just the smallest mistake and they went their separate ways.
She often thinks about what would have happened if they continued to be together.
Without a doubt, right now she is happy. But what if it was a different kind of happiness.
Hyoyeon is waiting for her ex-boyfriend. But she doesn’t know if he’ll come. She arbitrarily told him she wanted to meet him. If she was able to go back in time, she would call him desperately. Hyoyeon looks at the time, but he doesn’t come. The men’s size antique Rolex she received from her grandfather is a little big for her wrist. Only time passes. Afterward, when she stops looking at her watch, she looks to the sky.
The light of the evening street lamps lights her face.
In the middle of a mansion, Seohyun is in an all white room.Inside a gentle white room, she wears all white clothes and wears a corsage on top her head. Her parents don’t like her going out. She knows that. She is what you call a sheltered daughter.
The boy that she had an unrequited love for went far away. she’s living in a dream where if she only went back into the past to tell him about her feelings.
But, building up her courage, she runs out. To him.
Sooyoung is alone in the hotel she is visiting for work. The person who calls is him. While talking they begin to quarrel. Somewhere among the busy days, they stopped seeing eye to eye. Thinking of it now, something like this shouldn’t have happened. She doesn’t want to show her crying face over the phone.
Sooyoung speaks of breaking up. After a few minutes of silence, the two laugh. They both laugh off their stubbornness.
Tiffany dashes through the park. This park is the perfect place where nobody will bother her.
After joining the company, she went out with a fellow co-worker repeatedly.
Just like that the word marriage came out, but one day he wanted to break up with her suddenly.
Even after many months passed, she still doesn’t know the reason. If they can’t go back, she wants to ask why. “Is it my fault?”
If she knew why, she would be able to move forward.
At home, Yuri grips her cell phone. Even if she waits the phone does not ring.
To distract herself from the loneliness, she has a party with friends. When her friends go home, the loneliness comes back. In reality, she already realizes that it ended somewhere. On the other hand, she still hopes to continue on with him.
The hand that grips the cell phone becomes tighter.

Yoona’s story sound like a good ending for her new drama “love rain”
I know MV is music video, so what does PV mean?
I can see some of the storylines for a few, especially after reading them then watching the video again. But I agree they didn’t make it quite clear enough. Perhaps if they had pulled the camera further from their faces for a moment just to see the scenario better. Like, I couldn’t tell Tiffany was in a park or that Seohyun was in a mansion. And I am curious what Jessica wrote in the fog of the window. Is it just me that didn’t get what she wrote? Also, I do agree they could have done the group singing a bit less boring, even if it is super pretty, mostly. Their outfits usually make me question. I do love the video anyways.
A PV is a “promotional video”, MVs in Japan are referred to as PVs.
I agree with you in that the story lines aren’t clear, and if anything they’re non-existent. Personally, I think this is an attempt by the director or producer to insert a story into something that didn’t have any. After all, if there was all this story in the first place, why not include that into the MV and make it more obvious somehow? If this is what the script was and what they based the MV on, then they cut it down to less than even the bare bones. No one could ever interpret the meanings given here from what they saw in the MV, and most people would call this “grasping at straws”. If this were an MV with an actual story, the audience should be able to figure it out themselves, without needing someone to explain it to them. I’ve seen interpretations that are equally plausible, such as Sooyoung calling for pizza delivery and Yoona bringing it to her at the end, and there’s nothing to disprove that based on what we see.
Anyway, I’ve come to realize that these types of MVs satisfy the majority of the audience watching, and if you manage to do that, why change the formula? Everyone loves it, even if it’s just them looking beautiful throughout the video. It almost sounds like I’m complaining, but I watched it over and over, paused and rewinded, died and spazzed just like everyone else hahaha. It’s enough.
PV Time Machine is very greatful…!!!
i love the girls,,,
You can infer all that from the video… but you got to be imaginative as hell XD
I would really really have liked it more if the stories were told in a more explicit way.
I still find the MV good, though (:
:((Girls dont cry…im here to make you all happy!!!!!!<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3theres no end on loving SNSD…SARANGHAE<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3
man i want cry so bad right now is so sad but none the least the PV is really good
When do we get to see live performances of Time Machine?
Wow…
great story~
The mv is so beautiful!!!
Some of these you can really see when you look at the music video even if you don’t fully understand.
Like Sica in the car with the roses, constantly looking out of the window. Or Hyoyeon waiting, looking and checking her watch. Or Sooyoung at the hotel Or Yuri with the balloons in the background. Sunny’s even is pretty clear. You get that she was trying to be strong. And especially YoonA since she smiles and runs at the end of the video
Only Taeyeon and Tiffany I think are really hard to try to understand from the MV. I think Taeyeon’s would have been better enhanced if she was smiling really well and then caught sight of roses or something and then got a bittersweet expression. And Tiffany’s would have been easier to see if we saw her leaving or reentering the company building
great analysis of the MV!
although my favorites will always be the less serious fan ones about pizza lol
i like yoona’s the best :3 i love the running out of a wedding concept since “friends” xD
some of them are pretty good…actually, other than
sunny’s, taeyeon’s, and tiffany’s, i thought they each
carried their own unique feature pretty well. it was
actually pretty relatable in a lot of cases. some cases
even matched what the girls might be feeling pretty
well. my favorite though was sooyoung’s. i travel a lot
for work, so i know the feeling. and when i ever do find
the right person, i want to be able to handle being on
the road with caring for her. i want to do it right and
avoid what our poor souyoung is going through…:-(
missing the person that already left….
this is like Japanese fansite writing a fanfic for each scene. As much as I appreciate them for releasing an ‘official’ storyline, many people can just write any storyline that fits the scene. nonetheless, it’s really a nice pv.
Great analysis of the PV :D !
I never really thought of it in that way ;).
Thanks for the post.
Cheers !
Kenneth.
I agree with ^9♥0♥22. How was I supposed to understand all these stories from the MV? I’m still glad I got to watch though. It’s a nice change from the usual dancing in a room.
so touched..
the PV is amazing..
i hope SM will make this kind of MVs for next time again..
I read this somewhere in English as one SONE’s ‘What I Think of the Time Machine MV’s Plot’. I’m not sure if the Japanese fansite translated that and put it there, because the writing is the same as the one I read a week ago somewhere else, except for Tiffany’s story.
Wow.. nice story ..
so sad..
i wonder to whom is Yoona getting married to..
what if this story is a real story of their own?
jessica might be dating a celebrity or even a hallyu star, which explains the business n money.
yoona is pure enough to get cheated.
sunny is always showing a bright face so she wouldnt want him to see her cry.
taeyeon might be dating someone for some time and hv to break up to go different ways, maybe with another singer too?
hyoyeon might be waiting for the man she mentioned in strong heart abt the walking out of the restaurant while still wearing the apron incident.
seohyun is like we all know, might be the story with yonghwa too.
sooyoung’s might be laughing, but inside she is serious abt the breakup becos of their schedules.
tiffany’s marriage might be cancelled due to her busy schedules n her popularity n may even cause the chaos among fanboys.
yurmight always be smiling to the cameras, to people and so on, but when she’s alone, she’s lonely n probably waiting for her boyfriend to call her to check on her
NOTE: THIS IS JUST IMO
Touching ~ I wonder if I could endure the situations our girls are in.
I just hope all 9 of them are not having the same boyfriend >< If that would make sense…
Oh..so that’s the story. So sad. Boyfriend problems.
Sad stories.. ;______;
Be tough my SNSD ><
I feel a bit stupid, but I still don’t see even the tiniest hint of that particular ‘official story line’ from the Time Machine PV… but… I still strongly appreciated the PV. ^_^ The song is beautiful and the 9 even more so. <3
