Someone posted an awful comment when allkpop posted this article. They said something along the lines of, “I bet she cried because she finally realized that no amount of plastic surgery can help her.” My jaw dropped at that and I thought to myself, “It’s probably people like that, making fun of the way she looks, that are part of the reason why she cried. A lot of people in Korea think she’s the most unattractive member, so I’m sure there have been plenty of hate comments to her over the years. It makes me really sad, because I don’t think any of the girls are ugly, especially Hyoyeon. She is one of the most beautiful members to me, even if she isn’t traditionally beautiful like the other girls. I think one of the reasons Hyoyeon is my favorite is because I can relate to how people treat her; all my life, people always told me that I was ugly and that I should look a different way in order to be pretty, even at one point having a husband who would say things like “you’re getting fat” and “I would totally cheat on you with that girl” because he thought it was funny. I got to a point where I wanted to get every kind of plastic surgery available. Thank Heaven that I learned to appreciate (if not necessarily be confident with) the way I look naturally, my God-given features, otherwise I would have gone under the knife several times by now because of the way people treated me. I look up to Hyoyeon because, even though I’ve cried countless times over people’s hurtful comments, I’ve never seen Hyoyeon cry once before, no matter what the millions of people who see SNSD think of her or say about her. She’s very strong, and I hope I can learn to be that way someday, too.
