Girls’ Generation will be performing “GENIE” at the 62nd “Kouhaku Uta Gossen”.
Previous article from 11/30/11
Girls’ Generation has been invited to the 62nd edition of Japan’s New Year’s Eve music festival “Kouhaku Uta Gossen” (Red and White Song Battle). This years “Kouhaku” will have an extra special meaning to it as they will be celebrating the coming new year. It will also have an added theme of “Singing of Tomorrow” in wake of the terrible events that plagued Japan this year. The meaning of this theme is “to connect everyone through the strength of music,” and that “no matter the difficulty it can be overcome and tomorrow will arrive.” The short clip of Sooyoung speaking Japanese can be seen here:
This years “Kouhaku” will have the teams split by male and female, with males being on the White Team, and females are on the Red Team. Girls’ Generation will be a part of the Red Team, which is led by Inoue Mao. Also a part of the Red Team will be fellow Korean group KARA, who will also be appearing for the first time. However, they’ll be facing off against their labelmate and senior DBSK, who will be on the White Team. The winning team is decided by a combined system, with 10 judges judging the overall performance and an audience vote. Other performers that will be appearing at this years “Kouhaku” include Perfume, Hamasaki Ayumi, aiko, SMAP, Arashi, EXILE and many more.
This event will be broadcasted live on December 31, at 7:15pm JST.

Whatttt? December 31 is the event? But there no December 31… December ends on the 30…. I dont get it but i really want to watchhhH! :)
Sooyoung’s Japanese is incredibly impressive. I am looking forward to their performance!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Really?????Nice!!!!
My favorite yearly show. I can’t wait for this. Mostly because of the Arashi x Mao Inoue interaction. They’re all so cute together. <3
But still…to be honest, I'm not watching Kohaku for SNSD. I think it's too soon for them to be on the show. Sorry, girls. I like the 9 of you a lot and I feel bad for saying it, but you've only had one album and a few singles, most of which were remakes. When you've been there a few more years, then we'll talk.
*sigh* I hope this trend doesn't continue with K-Pop groups only being in Japan one year and getting to be on Kohaku.
The gals are gonna be involve in yet another meaningful & historical event.
If only all 9 of them can attend it..
It’ll be interesting watching GG facing Tohoshinki.
Cant wait. :D
Congratulations to SNSD, and to all the korean artists that have been invited to this program!
Today, due to Hallyu, there are thousands of korean restaurants throughout the world, korean dramas are a huge success outside South Korea, foreigners listen to KPOP and try to sing the songs, even if they don`t know the language, like me. And in Japan there are many stores with korean products and also, of course, thousands of japanese KPOP fans.
Even here in South America, in my country, Brazil, there are some stores where you can buy korean products and restaurants where they serve korean food. But most important, there are many KPOP fans here, and one of them is me!
Thanks to Hallyu stars like SNSD, the world knows more about the korean culture and realize how great it is.
SNSD Saranghae!
Much love from Brazil!
Came from Brazil too, and I confirm too that Hallyu influence in my country is very significative. If South Korea presence here is significative, a country located at the other side of the world, I imagine what is Hallyu influence in near countries, like Japan. Although I live in Brazil, I have japanese roots and I can just thank not just SNSD, but all the Hallyu’s groups, for being present in the world, spreading your name and culture, even though your history is not that beautiful (saying the modern history, not the Korea of long time ago, like 2000 years ago.
Love from Brazil SNSD and South Korea groups!
will the rest snsd members join the battle or not?
like hyoyeon will she join the battle?

at last…they will perform here with DBSK!!! And so sad that Yoona and Hyoyeon can’t join them. Aiiggooo~~
I was waiting for this for so long. I am curious about which song they will perform. Mr Taxi?
SNSD and Kara will make a great show.
omgg this year will be awesome ahhh i always cheers white team, but this year i will cheers both… i hope NHK world broadcast it.
There are some wierd statements in this article that make it sound like this year’s Kouhaku is somehow different from the other years, when in fact it isn’t really:
1) “This years “Kouhaku” will have an extra special meaning to it as they will be celebrating the coming new year.” — Kouhaku celebrates New Year every year, its a New Years’ tradition.
2) “This years “Kouhaku” will have the teams split by male and female, with males being on the White Team, and females are on the Red Team” — Again females on red team and males on white team is the way that it has been since it started in 1951, nothing different about this year.
no kouhaku never celebrate new year they always finish before midnight 11:45pm, so this years they will star 15 min before the traditional time, and as i see they will finish in the midnight.
wow wow wow!
a lot of great artistes will be joining the show!
there’s SMAP too??
wonder how yoona and hyoyeon will feel :D
i think that they already met them, remember music station last year. but im happy that they meet smap againg, i just want that they go to smap x smap.
OMG! Soooo excited and happy about this!!
The epic moment I have been waiting for!!
SNSD and Kara will surely bring out fabulous performances!
Yatta zeeeeee!
Daebak!!! I hope Red team will win…
I’m so excited to watch the show~
Can’t wait for it.
This is awesome, i can’t wait to see it. what a nice way to closed out the year 2011 and start the new year with some good memories. i hope the girls team get winner position, even though the guys team is also tough with good entertainers. anyway i’m proud of the girls, hope they get time to practice and be healthy and strong, get plenty of rest and kill everything. it’s good thing what they’re doing, hard working angels with hearts of gold. Good luck angels! Thanks SSF :)
Red team is definitely gonna win since they have SNSD, Kara and AKB48 and Koda Kumi leading the team keke though I know white team is not weak at all but the popularity is all in the red team XD
it is great that the girls get to be a part
of this. they deserve it as they were such
a significant part of japan’s history for this
year. and i am always most proud when
they use their music to heal and help
strengthen those around them and that is
what they are going to do helping japan
reflect on a difficult year and look forward
to a new one!!!
Oh my gosh this is going to be so freakin’ epic! I’m so excited right now and speechless… so many awesome artists attending this year! .___.
