In the October 1st edition of British newspaper, “The Guardian”, a story ran featuring Girls’ Generation as the leaders of K-Pop’s domination in Japan.
The article details the rise of Korean pop culture in Japan, starting with dramas and then music with artists like TVXQ and Kara, and praises Girls’ Generation as the leaders of the current trend in Japan. Last summer the girls performed in Tokyo for 20,000 fans and recently finished their sold out Arena Tour.
Among the praises that Japanese fans have for K-Pop artists like Girls’ Generation is that they are professional. A Japanese fan says they “are better trained and more sophisticated” than Japanese pop artists.
Perhaps the highest praise, though, came from Stephen McClure, an editor for McClure’s Asia Music News, who states that Mr. Taxi “is a beautifully constructed pop song.”
Girls’ Generation has demonstrated their talent in Japan with their Arena Tour and their double platinum selling Japan First Album. Even months after release their songs and albums continue to sell well and place in the top ten of Japan’s Oricon chart. They have taken Japan, the world’s second largest music market, by storm this year.
As Mr. McClure states, “If anyone from Asia is going to make it internationally, it will be a Korean artist.” Given their soaring popularity in Asia and the upcoming worldwide release of their new album, “The Boys”, the nine ladies of Girls’ Generation seem to be in perfect position to be true world stars.

I found out too! Hehee I was so excited, and rushed to the supermarkets at 9.20PM at night to find a copy of the newspaper. We first went to to the newsagents at the corner but then they were sold out. (9.20PM you expect them to be sold out!) But luckily I did find the last copy at the end!
It’s definitely “Global Generation”!

this GIRLS never stop to amaze me……
SNSD will be always be no.1………
Soshi…Jjang !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GBU SNSD……always
It’s amazing to have professionals rating them as the no.1 Group in Asia, I think the ‘no.1 Girl Group’ should replaced with ‘no. 1 Group’. It is true that their talent and more importantly, their team work has shine through the industry. Well said by McClure, indeed Mr Taxi is a beautifully constructed song, I’ve always wanted to say that. GG had huge potential to go worldwide, who knows, they can beat Lady Gaga and other APop stars with their much healthier and pure image!
Leading the Hallyu wave ^^ so proud to be a SONE whenever i read about them in articles in papers/magazines ^^ it really is a SO NYUH SHI DAE right now, and always… :) i specially like the part-Mr. Taxi “is a beautifully constructed pop song.” SO TRUE. i couldnt get my self to stop listening to it for the first 900 times playing it…at any rate, they are totally world class artistes, never any doubt about that, thanks girls for working so hard for your sones! next stop, world domination ^^ stay well and keep strong girls, SNSD fighting! yr sones will always be supporting u ~
Hah! how I wish I can give you a thumb up for your comment. You said all my thoughts! Mr Taxi is such a beautiful pop song. I never get tired of it even if I listen to this song everyday. GG’s team work, image, talent, personalities are all much well deserved for high praise and attention from people all around the globe. Know what, I even think they are kind of underrated compared to American Pop singers like you know who i’m talking about.
let’s go soshi let’s go… let’s go soshi let’s go!!!
Global Generation Daebak!!!
Great! Congratulation SNSD! xDDD
As expected, you are the LEADER of K-Pop’s domination in Japan! (Y)
Keep fighting! SONEs love you! ♥o♥
another step.. good job everyone! from the girls to their teams, to the SONEs and the anti’s..?? hehe
i hope the bigger our girls get, the more motivated they become in improving their skills.
Awn, I look back on their beginning and… Wow!
They deserve all this for sure!
They always worked so hard and had the same dream…
I have no doubt about their global success!
SNSD fighting~~!!!
Sones so proud! +___+
Oh, my girls, I’m proud of you ^^
And I want to be watch MV, right now.
How long do I have to wait TT
Nice! The newspaper article was very well written. The news already reached to UK.
I know Morning Musume & AKB48. But compared with SNSD, they are in the different league.
“The K-Pop wave has spread to Thailand and Malaysia, and there are stirrings of interest in the US, Latin America and Europe.” –> IMHO, Indonesia must be added in the list ^_^
Thanks for sharing.
And SONEs around the world are going to be behind them every step of the way, cheering them on full blast and giving them plenty of energy and they in return. These girls deserve everything for their hard work. Hard work pays off big time. This is a great article btw. Thanks ssf for sharing the news. :D
proud..
Awesome! :)
An asian artist taking on the world market sounds farfetched but if anybody can do it.. SNSD can.
I’m a regular reader of the Guardian and I think it’s high praise for a paper like the Guardian to comment on our girls… it’s probably one of the most respected newspapers in the world and often wins international awards for it’s great journalism…. and they often write some really insightfull articles about k-pop too.
It just shows how slowly but surely the girls are just getting more and more recognition from around the world….
like McClure states in that article “If anyone from Asia is going to make it internationally, it will be a Korean artist.” and I’m convinced that all Girl’s Generation need is just the exposure to the world market… It feels that they are so close to getting the world recognition they deserve….
That’s nice and all, but this guy makes me kind of mad.
It’s great what these girls have achieved. From such a small music market, they’ve managed to make themselves pretty well-known (k-pop isn’t as worldwide as you might think, though).
But still….*rolls eyes* As soon as I read the title of the story, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to take this article seriously. Another “K-Pop is taking over Japan” article, and another person who doesn’t know anything about J-pop writing about K-pop vs. J-pop.
This is getting REALLY stupid.
Wow…
so great our girls been giving the recognition that they deserved~
Forever the strong 9 !!!!
A great compliment.
I do hope that “The Boys” can take the world by storm.
YES YES YES!!! I’m so happy to read all that, and plus to see a SNSD’s picture in a UK newspaper. :D
Girls’ Generation is taking over the world! (: Hope they make a world tour including South America :P
i second everything he said hahaha~ XD
God Bless You, Girls’ Generation! <3 <3 <3
I’m not sure if I should be slightly angered that he said some actors got plastic surgery since he praised girls generation and it’s sort of true. At least he didn’t say anything bad about snsd accusing them of plastic surgery….I’m confused
that McClure guy knows what he’s talking about.
though there is apprehension among fans, as i’m
sure there is among anyone involved with snsd,
it is an excited apprehension. we know the
global audience is a big audience to satisfy, so
it will cause some butterflies. but girls…we all
love you and will support you in any way we can.
whether it is buying every possible edition of
your album or little messages like this, we will
be with you ’til the end! we know you can do it!
let’s all take this big step together!!!
trully GLOBAL GENERATION
omg such high praise…love it! :D
