"Thousands of people have been killed by a massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25, 2015. There is widespread devastation across Nepal. The death toll, now over 5,000, continues to rise as search and rescue efforts are underway in Kathmandu and across the country. There is no way to accurately guess how many are in need throughout the other cities and hundreds of villages at this time. We have been hearing that villages - especially those closest to the epicenter - have been the most devastated. Some initial reports suggest that many villages have been totally flattened by the quake. There have been dozens of tremors and aftershocks since the first earthquake, further destabilizing structures and complicating rescue efforts.

The immediate need on the ground is for medical support, search and rescue, emergency shelters and food and water among many other things. As the days, weeks and months go by and after the humanitarian needs are addressed, Nepal will need to begin the healing and rebuilding process. The magnitude of the damage is still being assessed, but hundreds of buildings have collapsed including many homes and many of Nepal’s ancient and iconic temples and monuments." - Prabal Gurung

It's amazing how fast time flies and we've come again to our annual anniversary charity project. Though it feels like we've been with the girls forever, in the short five years that we have raised charity funds, you all have donated over $100,000. We've been able to spread the extraordinary love we have for the girls to people and causes all over the world. This year we will raising funds for Habitat For Humanity Korea. 2. Raffle

• Raffle tickets will be given out with each purchase:

3. Bingo Scavenger Hunt

• "Bingo" will earn you 2 raffle tickets, and completing the entire sheet will earn you 10 raffle tickets AND 1 special raffle ticket.

SPECIAL EVENTS
 
1. 7th Anniversary Event

• To celebrate the girls' 7th anniversary, we will be holding a fan event during Sunday's concert. When Girls' Generation talks to the audience on stage, we will hold up the below sign. The words in Hangul on the sign read, "Indestructible" and "Unbreakable". For those attending the concert, please download and print out a copy of the sign, and bring it to the concert on August 10th, We will have a limited number of copies available at the Soshified booth and during the concert. Due to the setup of the concert, the fan event will be a difficult to pull off but we challenge everyone to surprise the girls by encouraging other fans to participate as well.

Note #4: The sign is a regular sized, white, piece of paper printed landscape.

 

 

2. Girls' Generation Autographed Album Special Raffles

• There are three ways to obtain special raffle tickets:

1. Purchase Soshified merchandise: each item purchased gets you 1 special raffle ticket.
2. Complete the entire Bingo Scavenger Hunt sheet.
3. Participate in the 15 minute trivia session at 4:15PM.

• You may start entering your special raffle tickets at 4:15PM each day.

In what has been described as the worst typhoon in Filipino history, Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) left in its wake a scene of devastation with an estimated 10,000 feared dead. Traveling across a region that had just weeks before suffered a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, the strongest in 25 years, Haiyan caught an already displaced population exposed. We will be raising money for UNICEF in support of those affected.

Over the years, Soshified has increasingly shifted its focus from physical gifts to charitable ventures in an effort to spread the Girls' Generation/SONE love. With the 5th Anniversary being such a significant milestone and cause to celebrate big, we will not be limiting ourselves to just one day but making it a year-long celebration. During this time, we hope to release some exciting projects that will not only highlight to the girls just how much we love them but also the international bonds of friendship that they have created. To kick off our efforts, we will be hosting a month-long collection to donate to the Korean Retinitis Pigmentosa Society (KRPS). Not only have Taeyeon, Tiffany, Sooyoung and Seohyun been appointed KRPS ambassadors, but Sooyoung's father heads the organization.

More information about the KRPS…

Retinitis pigmentosa, abbreviated as “RP”, refers to a set of rare genetic eye diseases that affect the retina of the eye and sometimes leads to going blind. Its rarity has resulted in a lack of information on the disease, and patients often live with the fear of losing their vision, unaware that several effective treatments, medicines and supplements have been developed to protect the retina and delay the disease’s development. In addition, several new drugs are currently in a clinical testing phase.

The KRPS, headed by Sooyoung’s father, Choi Jungnam, works to provide patients with updated medical information and to console and encourage patients to fight the disease and slow its progression. Over 1/3rd of patients suffer from depression and are offered free counseling. In addition, the organization is currently negotiating with South Korean government agencies to make drugs used to treat retinitis pigmentosa covered under the national health insurance program. The KRPS also makes bulk purchases of some supplements in order to provide them to patients at a lower cost. In the future, the KRPS looks to set aside funds to provide financial support to low-income patients.

After Choi Jungnam’s appointment as President of the KRPS, the organization has focused on supporting medical research into retinitis pigmentosa and making the voice of retinitis pigmentosa patients heard in the medical community. In 2010, a research group made up of dedicated and renowned researchers and doctors was established in the Department of Ophthalmology in Seoul National University. KRPS and the Department of Ophthalmology now exchange information and support, and RP patients are able to receive a higher level of specialized care and professional medical help than ever before.

The research group is currently conducting clinical trials on several drugs, and if proven effective, patients will be able to receive better medication. In addition, due to the difficulty in accurately diagnosing retinitis pigmentosa, the Department of Ophthalmology is developing an advanced gene examination system to limit misdiagnoses. Research is also being conducted in cooperation with medical centers in the United States, England, Hong Kong, Japan, and the International Retinitis Pigmentosa Association based in Switzerland. After results emerge from research conducted in Korea, the department will collaborate with research centers in American universities for projects such as joint clinical experiments.

The majority of funds donated to the KRPS go towards research, as determined by the majority of the members of the organization. As newer medicines are developed, some funds are also allotted for less fortunate patients who cannot afford the latest drugs. Finally, KRPS provides medical aid for people with weak vision.

All efforts by the Korea Retinitis Pigmentosa Society are made on a very small budget, and any donations are helpful and greatly appreciated. Thus, the KRPS is Soshified’s charity of choice for the 2012 year.

We presented the girls with Tiffany & Co Apple necklaces backstage at out 1st US Fan Meet event in New York. If you look at fan meet pictures, you can see that the girls wore the necklace immediately!

We picked this design for several reasons. The most obvious would be the connection with New York's nickname as the Big Apple. Also, with apples being commonly found throughout fairy tales, it ties in nicely with the girls' album theme. As it is, the girls simply are the Apple of our eyes.
