#4838331 [020312] A rash decision turned out to be the best decision ever ^^

Posted by wongeen on 05 February 2012 - 03:07 PM

By Thursday night, I was completely bummed out that I didn't even get to see the girls in my home city. I felt like a pathetic NY-sone that just left a week of opportunity go to waste. Because of school and lack of transportation, it was impossible for me to go to the city and witness everything. When I knew it was impossible to get into the fan signing on Tuesday, I tried to comfort myself by telling myself, at least you got to see them on your HDTV :) (HD+big screen+ snsd= :D) I kept trying to think of ridiculous ways I could get into the fan signing but it was hopeless. 300 wristbands would be gone in a heartbeat and I wouldn't even have a chance. For some reason, I had this crazy plan in my head that if I get up at 4AM, I could get my dad to drive me to the train station and hopefully get there by 5:30AM and be early for the line queue. Then I'll just wait until 8AM, get a wristband, take the train back home and only miss 3 periods of school. Of course when I ran that idea through my parents they thought I was insane. Sucks to live in Long Island sometimes. After hearing stories about how the wristbands disappeared by 3AM and the terrible organization, I guess I would've just wasted my time.

I calmed myself down by telling myself, there was no chance anyways. People were on top of their game and you didn't have a chance at getting one. I was okay for a few hours until I started seeing pictures of the fan signing on tumblr. I started hating myself again because I just let a huge opportunity slip by. I kept dwelling on how stupid I was and started mentally slapping myself for being so dumb. Then I heard some people without wristbands who waited diligently also go into the fan signing and at that point, I just called myself a fail sone. I kept thinking, I should've done that. I would've have a chance but noooooooooo. I was aggravated, jealous and soshi hungry. When the fan signing was over, some of my old old friends showed off pictures of their signatures. Jealousy rushed through my body. At that point, I wish I went to school in the city. I was thinking "screw Long Island, nothing ever happens and I'm always isolated from everything". Its kind of true to a certain extent.

Friday rolled around and I knew this was their last day in NY. I woke up at 4:00AM to go on a ski trip with my school. I thought to myself, this should help me clear my mind. Maybe I won't be as jealous after this trip. This will definitely remedy my soshi hunger. To an extent, it actually did. I had a blast with my friends and by the end of the day, I totally forgot about everything. When we got on the bus, I completely passed out and wandered in my dreams for a few hours. When I woke up, I suddenly remembered that they should be leaving today. I was on my phone frantically trying to find out if they left yet. I found out that Yuri and Yoona left already (Jessica already left before the fan signing). A sudden spark went off in my head. Would it be possible to catch them at the airport?! There was no way. Nothing ever works out for me when it comes to soshi.

By the time I got home, I was sore, exhausted and drowsy from the trip. For some reason, I checked JFK's departures to ICN and there were two flights for 12:20 AM. All this energy and strength suddenly regenerated me and I thought I had a chance. I was tired of missing out on opportunities and I knew I had to do it. My attitude was totally different this time. I thought to myself, the only way you will fail is if you don't give it a shot. I ran through everything by my parents and they were even nice enough drive my sister and I to the airport. I grabbed my coat and bag and the family and I head out to JFK.

There was a 50:50 shot between Delta Airlines and Korean Air. I chose the Korean Air terminal because...well its korean LOL We got there around 10PM and I was prepared to do a lot of waiting. I sat there trying to hunt out some fellow sones but most people there were checking in their flights. My hope started to dwindle because there weren't any sones around us. I started patrolling the area to scout out other sones and I only found 3 POTENTIAL sones. After waiting about 45 minutes, the giant GG tour bus rolled in front of the departure area. My heart dropped and I thought this was it. Being the considerate person that I am, I walked over the POTENTIAL sones sitting by the bench and asked them if they were here for SNSD. They nodded and I said, well there bus is outside. They jetted to the door faster than I could imagine. I was a flustered but I quickly made my way to the entrance. Apparently, there were quite a few sones lying around because the crowd quickly grew. There were about 6-8 of us waiting from a good distance from the bus. As I promised to SNSDave, I preached his wisdom. I told the other sones to be calm, considerate and un-saesang fan like. I told them to keep a good distance from the girls when they come out and not to swarm them. They agreed and we all waited.

After a good 15minutes of watching the staff and managers unload the girls' luggage, we concluded that they were intimated by our small crowd so we decided to wait patiently inside. We saw some of the managers walk in and out of the airport checking in, bringing the luggage in but there was no sign of the girls. I think some of the crowd gave up and left but I stuck around with the small group of sones. After waiting some more, another group of sones came with giant DLSRs and "happy birthday sooyoung" signs. They kindly passed them out to us and we all wore them on our chests. I was starting to lose hope again thinking that the girls would probably take an underground tunnel or something to avoid us. One of the sones asked the security lady if the girls would have to pass through security here and she said yes. She also told us not to take any pictures and we all kindly agreed thinking that the girls probably had enough flash over the pass week. Once again, I reminded the other sones and preached word of SNSDave and for the most part, everyone seemed pretty calm. As we were chatting, I realized that my sister and I were the only ones who didn't see the girls yet. Everyone else saw them throughout the week! (I envy you guys)

There was group of koreans sitting near our crowd who saw our "happy birthday sooyoung" signs and started poking fun at us. I couldn't understand them but I was obvious that they were laughing at us. One of the other sones gave a sign to one of the guys but then it seemed like he was ridiculing us. He started telling us to line up in front of the door and his family was obnoxiously laughing at us. I didn't want to be a part of it and I thought it would totally ruin everything if we crowded the girls by the entrance. Eventually the security lady warded them off and said that they couldn't do that. The family proceeded to laugh at our fandom which I found pretty annoying.

There was more waiting, chatting and etc. Then a light blue Honda Odyssey pulled up near the door. One of the guy sones said he recognized the van. There were two entrances and all of the sones were unsure of which entrance they were going to come in from. My parents were by the right entrance just waiting there and the small crowd us (about 8-10?) of us were on the left. Then when I turned to my dad, he was frantically waving at me, signaling me to come here. I started running to the other side and I said to the other sones, "they're this way!" We all ran to the other side and there they were. **

I saw two beautiful blond girls from a distance. It was Hyoyeon and Sunny. Hyoyeon smiled and waved at us with a bright smile. She was really pretty and seemed very happy ^^ Sunny seemed very tired and kind of hid next to Hyoyeon. I heard the cameras and fans were hard on her this time. TT To my surprise, there were no loud fan cries and no obnoxious things of that nature. We were all calm and kept our distance for the most part. However, 1-2 sones did try to get a signature from Hyoyeon and actually succeeded! The girl who got the signature disappeared after that LOL Then Sooyoung walked in. We all said happy birthday and when she saw our signs, she smiled really brightly and at us and waved happily. Then Seohyun walked in with another guy (possibly manager or a friend that escorted them around) and I was stunned. Her skin, her beauty, her hair. Oh my god. She was so beautiful in person and I was infatuated. I was surprised at this point because I just saw four beautiful soshi members but I was also surprised because two of them were missing! I kept saying, where is everyone else!? Apparently Taeyeon and Tiffany were ninja and just slipped by! We all headed around the corner to meet up with them once again and bid our farewell. Once again Hyoyeon greeted us with a loving smile. Sooyoung really appreciated our signs :D I heard Seohyun's voice when she was saying good bye to one of their friends from NY and my ears melted.

Then a goddess appeared before my eyes. Goddess born Taeyeon noona was right in front of me and my heart dropped. I didn't know what to say or what to do and all that came out was, Hi Taeyeon! That was all I said to everyone. I was waving and smiling like a complete idiot the whole time. I really couldn't believe what I was seeing. There's Taeyeon! Your bias is RIGHT THERE. Everything around me disappeared and I only saw her for a while. She was everything I expected and beyond. I was really happy that the sones there didn't swarm the girls with flashing DLSRs and ear piercing screams. Tiffany was such a ninja again with her hat and sunglasses. I only caught a glimpse of her and she quickly moved on the security process. They all waved at us and we all waved back like smiling idiots :) I saw Taeyeon give one of the airport security guys a signature and I was so jealous. At least I got to see her close up in person ^^ They moved on to the security x-ray conveyor belt thing. Taeyeon and Tiffany were on the same line and there was a Taeny moment haha. I'll just copy and paste the mini fan account I wrote for a tumblr friend.

"so taeng and fany were both on the same security conveyor belt thing and they were taking off their jackets and accessories and putting them on the bin. taeng kept turning back to fany and casually talking haha there were a few chuckles here and there. taeng forgot one of her jackets and her bin was moving so she tried to lean in and chuck her jacket into the conveyor belt but she decided last minute it would be a good idea so she just dropped it in another bin (maybe fany’s don’t remember) as taeng was going through the security walkway thing, fany was waiting with her hands on her hip haha thats all i remember really ^^" cr: my tumblr haha

I just tried to look at all the girls and store the memories forever. I was still stunned by Taeyeon's beauty and we made eye contact a few times :) -dead- Before I knew it, everyone passed the last part of security and they all started disappearing. I was being stubborn and stayed there. I was tippy toeing trying to get a last glimpse of the girls. Everyone around my already left but I kept looking, thinking that someone was going to be there. Then to my luck, Seohyun peeked back to the area where we were standing to bid us a final farewell. But there was no one there but me. I was shocked and I just kept waving like an idiot and said "Bye Seohyun"! And she kept waving back and finally left. Seohyun waved at me!! We totally had a moment<3 LOL ^^

And that was that. A totally random decision I made after waking up from an exhausting ski trip totally made my entire week of missed opportunities not half bad (it was actually pretty amazing ^^.

To the fellow sones there, I was the asian guy with the pea coat ^^ You guys probably have been around a lot of sones before because you were all group up but this was actually the first time I chatted with other sones in person so it was an amazing experience. It was my first time able to talk to people around me about biases and other snsd related topics. Its really kind of cool how we never saw each other before but once we talk, we know exactly what the other person is talking about and could just chat forever. It was truly a life changing experience for me. To the other asian guy in the beanie- DUDE! I'M SO SORRY I STILL HAVE YOUR BROWN SHARPIE LOL i realized when I got in my car TT if you're reading this, I would have no problem sending it back to you or something LOL If any of you guys want to keep in touch, that'll be cool ^^

**It was kind of funny because my parents were the first ones to greet the girls and my mom said that the girl in the blond (hyoyeon) and the tall girl (sooyoung) were laughing and waving at them. They probably thought, wow, I have these kinds of fans too!? LOL And my sister had a moment with Sooyoung haha Shes still 13 and everything there was much older so sooyoung paid more attention to her LOL

Thank you for reading my ridiculously long fan account for such a short encounter LOL
