Now, I understand that being an idol is not just about money, fame or adulation. Its about working your ass off with little or no sleep. Its about putting on a smile even when your heart is breaking because your fans work hard for you and you better be happy to show your gratitude. Its about hiding your falling in love because of course, your fans love you and they want all of your love (afterall, they made you the idol that you are). Its about loving your fans so much through the years only to find that with your slip up they turn their backs on you and they drum up so much noise at their leaving, they rake you through the coals for being human and imperfect.
I would not want that for a child of mine if that were all. But its not. Being an idol is also about showing to the world your precious God-given talent. Its expressing in your art everything that is in you- joys, sorrows, fears, excitement. (In short, everything that makes you uniquely yourself.) Its about giving joy to hearts that are sad or lonely, excitement for those whose mundane lives are a continuum of sameness and mediocrity and, for those who are losing hope, the will to try again.
Yes, it is sometimes a thankless job born of people's fickleness. But its all worth it when you consider the multitude of faceless and voiceless people whose lives have become brighter and happier for having been touched by you.
Indeed being an idol is not for the faint-hearted. There are times when your heart could burst with joy, only for unexpected problems to come in the next minute to crush you. But it is a noble calling worthy of respect and gratefulness. I would want that for a child of mine - but only if he has the strong heart of SNSD that will not cause him to falter when the going gets tough.
My passion is reading. When on vacation, I am able to read two full length novels a day. Now, I like reading fanfics instead because they are not as long. It gives me time for other activities.
98% of my posts are comments on fanfiction I've read because I think that its the least I can do to show appreciation to writers for their time and effort in providing readers with quality fics. Its also a sort of "Thank You" for the joy their fics give me.
