On the night of September 22nd, Girls’ Generation performed alongside their fellow SM Entertainment artists at Jakarta, Indonesia for the fifth concert in their “SMTOWN Live World Tour III” series. Held at the Gelora Bung Karno stadium, the largest stadium in Indonesia, last night’s event was the biggest concert of the year. Girls’ Generation was joined by Kangta, BoA, TVXQ!, Super Junior, SHINee, f(x), and EXO for their first performance in Indonesia.

Two hours before the concert started, Taeyeon represented Girls’ Generation in attending the press conference. Taeyeon expressed that it was an honor to be able to perform in Indonesia for the first time and wished for the fans to enjoy the concert. She also mentioned that their upcoming plans include an album release in both Japan and Korea during the second half of 2012. The MCs were left speechless after Taeyeon’s remark, and they expressed that her beauty had left them baffled for a few moments. You can watch the full 18-minute press conference here.

By 6 PM, the sun had started to set and the sky grew dark. Fans who have waited for over a few hours started to shout and cheer for their favorite artists. The lights dimmed and the concert started at 6:30 PM, right on time.

The first member to appear onstage was Jessica, who performed Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” with her sister, f(x)’s Krystal. However, Girls’ Generation’s first appearance was marked by Taeyeon’s signature “Devil’s Cry”, which shook the whole stadium. Her strong presence garnered a lot of cheers from the crowd, and the other eight girls joined her for their next performance, “Run Devil Run”. Dressed in black, the girls were able to make all the SONEs wave their lightsticks frantically for their first performance of the night.

The girls then went on to their introduction segment, in which they tried a few Indonesian phrases to communicate with the crowd. After they finished introducing themselves one by one, Taeyeon nudged Sooyoung and Hyoyeon while pointing at the paper project amongst the crowd, which said “Today is Hyo(ur)s”. Hyoyeon then playfully acted along as everyone sang “Happy Birthday”. Sunny pushed Hyoyeon to the middle, and the girls jokingly hit her.

The next song the girls performed was “Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)”. The crowd roared wildly as Tiffany shouted, “Indonesia, put it back on!” After their performance, the girls disappeared to the back of the stage.

Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun appeared again as Girls’ Generation – TTS for their performance of “Twinkle”. After performing in the center of the stage, the girls hopped onto the carts and spread out to perform Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” with EXO’s D.O., Luhan, Sehun and Chanyeol. The performance was followed by a dance battle among the best dancers from each group, and Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Yoona represented Girls’ Generation. Fans all around the stadium cheered for these three gorgeous dancers.

Spliced into other artist’s performances was the Korean version of “MR. TAXI”, which the girls carried out with confidence. They also performed their similar set of songs, “Gee” and “Kissing You”, donning familiar white shirts and blue jeans.

The last song Girls’ Generation performed was the Korean version of “The Boys”. Fans have waited for this moment in excitement, which could be clearly heard from the “GG” fanchant which echoed throughout the stadium. For the ending song “Hope”, the girls went back on stage wearing their SMTOWN shirts while playing around with gifts from their fans.

Overall, it was very pleasant to have Girls’ Generation perform at the biggest K-pop concert ever to be held in Indonesia. “SMTOWN Live World Tour III in Jakarta” was definitely a very unforgettable moment for all fans in Indonesia, so we hope to see them perform here again soon!
